Head-to-Head

West Ham vs Arsenal previews note this is the second meeting on the English Premier League schedule between these two teams this season. In late December, West Ham became the first team to defeat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this season. Tomas Soucek and Dinos Mavropanos scored in the Hammers’ 2-0 win. West Ham also defeated Arsenal 3-1 in November’s EFL Cup fourth round. West Ham are unbeaten in the last three meetings overall but the Gunners have won six of the last ten.

West Ham Missing Paqueta

West Ham desperately missed Lucas Paqueta in last Sunday’s 3-0 loss at Manchester United. On multiple occasions, the West Ham midfield gave the ball away carelessly, which led to United opportunities. The Hammers did have their fair share of opportunities in the match but couldn’t manage to get on the scoresheet. West Ham’s loss was their first in their last seven EPL matches.

However, they haven’t been a great pick for soccer betting since Paqueta went down injured vs. Arsenal in December. West Ham are 0-4-2 in all competitions in 2024 and are still looking for their first win of the year. Paqueta won’t be returning on Sunday and Michail Antonio is still working his way back from a knee problem. With Pablo Fornals off to Real Betis and Said Benrahma on loan at Lyon, West Ham are lacking in creative midfield/wing options. Maxwel Cornet may have to step up in the coming weeks.

Jarrod Bowen has had another excellent season for the Hammers and Mohammed Kudus has impressed in his debut campaign. Bowen leads West Ham, with 11 goals in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Kudus has scored six teams in the EPL and James Ward-Prowse has been a good addition to David Moyes’ midfield. Heading into this match, West Ham have conceded six goals in their last three in the EPL.

Arsenal Back in Title Race

Arsenal picked up their most important win of the season last Sunday, when they took down EPL leaders Liverpool 3-1. The Reds were without Mo Salah but Arsenal thoroughly dominated, with seven shots on target to Liverpool’s one. Bukayo Saka headed home to give the Gunners the lead in the 14th minute. However, a defensive mishap allowed Liverpool back into the game just before halftime.

Mikel Arteta’s side pushed for a winner in the second half and Gabriel Martinelli got it in the 67th minute. Leandro Trossard sealed the deal with Arsenal’s third goal and now Arsenal are just two points behind Liverpool. Arsenal have now won their last three EPL games and are in third place in the Premier League table.

This is another important match for the Gunners, who can’t afford to drop precious points in the title race. They’ve scored 10 goals in their last three games alone and are finally flowing on offense after a difficult period. Jorginho stepped into the midfield vs. Liverpool and did an excellent job but last Sunday’s man of the match is now listed as doubtful. Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey are all doubtful as well. Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko will both miss out.

Match Analysis & Odds

Our West Ham vs Arsenal preview notes that Arsenal are -185 road favorites for Sunday’s match. They’re going for their fourth straight win here and December’s defeat to the Hammers will be fresh on their minds. Meanwhile, West Ham are +510 underdogs and their form has been quite concerning recently. Still, they’re in the race for the European places, in seventh place.

Bettors can take West Ham +1 at -110 odds, while Arsenal -1 comes in at -110 as well. Two of the last four EPL meetings at the London Stadium have finished all square and a draw shows +350 odds for this one. Still, West Ham will be confident they can beat Arsenal given it’s already happened twice this season.

Arsenal have been scoring in bunches in recent matches but under three goals are priced at -135 odds. We wouldn’t be surprised to see both teams get on the scoresheet here and Arsenal should have a bunch of chances.
