Title Contenders Face Off

Three-time defending Premier League champions Manchester City are on top of the EPL table after 12 matches. The last time a non-City team won the Premier League title was Liverpool, back in 2020. City will host Liverpool at the Etihad on Matchday 13 as the EPL’s top two teams face off for the first time this season on Saturday. This is a must-watch match between the Premier League’s highest-scoring sides, but Man City’s top scorer Erling Haaland is doubtful. As the Reds look to overtake City in the table, let’s check out the Man City vs Liverpool EPL odds.

Head-to-Head

Last season’s EPL results in this fixture were split. Liverpool picked up a 1-0 win at home in October 2022 as Mo Salah scored the winning goal. Salah also opened up the scoring in the reverse fixture, but City came back to seal a 4-1 win. These teams also met in the EFL Cup and FA Community Shield last season and City defeated Liverpool 3-2 in the former. The Reds also beat City 3-1 in the Community Shield. In the last 10 meetings, in all competitions, City hold a 4-3-3 record. Both English Premier League teams have scored in eight of the last 10 matches of this fixture.

Man City’s Injury Woes Deepen

Manchester City’s injuries have piled up over the last few weeks and as many as eight players could miss Saturday’s match. The most prominent of which are Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland. De Bruyne has been out of action since August and could return sometime in the next month. Meanwhile, Haaland had to pull out of Norway’s squad last week with an ankle injury. Haaland is on top of the EPL goal stats, with 13 goals this season, but he could be conspicuously absent for this match.

Haaland will certainly be missed, as he’s scored four goals in his last two matches for Manchester City. Along with De Bruyne and Haaland, a bunch of potential starters could be missing. Goalkeeper Ederson, defenders John Stones and Nathan Ake and midfielders Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes are questionable. Reserve left back Sergio Gomez is also sidelined as Pep Guardiola’s side continues to thin out.

Just before the international break, City drew 4-4 at Chelsea in a wild match. Former City player Cole Palmer equalized in stoppage time against his boyhood club on a penalty. In their last five EPL matches, City have averaged three goals per game and they are the league’s highest scoring team so far. The Cityzens enter the weekend on top of the table and Man City vs Liverpool EPL odds price them as -155 favorites to remain there.

Salah Starring for Liverpool/tie_index]

Salah Starring for Liverpool

Mohamed Salah’s excellent start to the season continued as Liverpool took on Brentford a couple of weekends ago. Salah scored a double in the match as the Reds cruised to a 3-0 win and climbed to second place in the EPL. Salah has scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season and only Haaland has scored more in the league so far.

The outright Premier League odds now price Liverpool as +650 dark horses to win their first title since 2020. Their only loss in the league this season came under controversial circumstances at Tottenham and Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking like one of the teams to beat.

Liverpool are also dealing with a number of injuries but a number of players could return over the weekend. While Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are expected to be out, all of Joe Gomez, Ryan Gravenberch, Ibrahima Konate and Curtis Jones could return vs Manchester City.

Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has been a huge hit since arriving from RB Leipzig over the Summer and fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will return from a suspension for this match. While Liverpool are only 2-3-1 on the road in the EPL, this is a match that has been circled on their soccer calendar for quite some time.

Match Analysis & Odds/tie_index]

Match Analysis & Odds

In the most anticipated Premier League match of the week, Manchester City are -155 favorites despite all of the injuries. Should Haaland miss this match, expect Julian Alvarez to start up front for City. Both teams have a bunch of offensive weapons and Jeremy Doku is another one to watch for City, as Guardiola may rely on him if Haaland’s out.

Liverpool’s Salah has been one of the EPL’s best players this season and both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have scored four goals so far as well. Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are other options Jurgen Klopp can call on.

Currently, the Man City vs Liverpool EPL odds price Liverpool as +320 underdogs. Bettors should note that the Reds haven’t won a Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium since 2015. None of the last five meetings, in all competitions, have finished in a draw, but a deadlock is priced at +300 odds here.

Seven of the last eight head-to-head matchups have finished with four or more goals. However, under 3.5 goals come in at -160 odds for this one. Bettors can also take Man City -0.5, -1 or Liverpool +0.5, +1 at -110 odds.
