What’s Happening?

The latest F1 news will be made this weekend when some of the meanest machines on the planet will compete in Austin Texas at Circuit of the Americas, also known as COTA. The Circuit of the Americas complex was built primarily for auto racing and has been home to the U.S. Grand Prix since 2012 and has seen this race run every year since then, except for 2020 when COVID shut it down.

F1 rumors are that a new deal will be struck to keep the U.S. Grand Prix at COTA when the pact expires in 2026. But that’s a long way away and for right now, we will see these world-class race cars in Austin, Texas until then.

There are 23 rounds or competitions each season on various tracks around the globe with the U.S. Grand Prix being Round 19. Unfortunately, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy had to be canceled in May but the good news is that the Las Vegas Grand Prix in Sin City will debut next month, on November 19th, so get your tickets now!

What is COTA?

Circuit of the Americas is a multi-entertainment complex built in 2012 on 1500 acres and it is not only the home of the Formula One U.S. Grand Prix but there is also NASCAR and several other races that use this unique track to compete.

The wide corners were deliberately built into the blueprint of the track to encourage multiple lanes allowing drivers to scream down its corridors. The Buddh International Circuit in India also has this feature but it is rarely seen throughout F1 racing tracks.

There is also a 14,000-seat open-air amphitheater for concerts and entertainment along with a campground adjacent to the track for RVs and campers alike. An amusement park is also in the works featuring Ferriss wheels, roller coasters, and a vast array of rides to round out the experience.

Those who want a little adventure in their lives can drive a car on the track but that experience will cost you and the amount depends on several factors but it doesn’t come cheap. If you are interested, contact COTA, and get all the details.

Will Mad Max Make It a Trifecta?

Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing is the favorite in this race, and he should be after winning the last two US GPs and gunning for a third. However, he will have his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, as well as the illustrious Mercedes driver and six-time U.S. Grand Prix champion, Lewis Hamilton, breathing down his back.

But there is also the charismatic Australian driver, Daniel Ricciardo, who returns for the second time this season after breaking a bone in his hand and will jump back in the AlphaTauri’s AT04 driver’s seat for this one.

Ricciardo said, “It’s good to be back! My hand is much better, and the simulator was a useful way of assessing it.

“I spent the rest of that week in the UK, spending more time in the sim, and got to a point where I felt ready to go. It was definitely frustrating watching the past few races, especially as I’d gotten myself to a place where I was so ready to go again and race, and then I did two events and had to hit “Pause” again.”
