UEFA Euro Qualifiers: Netherlands vs France Odds

Powerhouses Face Off

France Perfect Through Five Matches

With a win on Friday at the Netherlands, France will clinch a berth at next Summer’s European championships. France has been one of the most dominant teams in qualifiers, with five wins from five matches. Meanwhile, the Netherlands is in second place in Group B with three straight wins in qualifiers. These European powerhouses have one of the bigger rivalries in international football and this is a meaningful game for both sides. Ahead of Friday’s match, we’ll preview the Netherlands vs France odds.

NED Netherlands vs France FRA

Date & Time:
Location: Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Head-to-Head:

France destroyed the Netherlands 4-0 in Paris back in March as Kylian Mbappe scored twice. The Netherlands vs France odds priced hosts France as -170 favorites pre-match. Mbappe has four career goals vs. the Netherlands and France have won six of their last seven games vs. the Oranje. The Netherlands last defeated France in 2018 by a 2-0 scoreline in Rotterdam.

Shorthanded Netherlands Underdogs at Home

Since taking over the Netherlands national team in January, Ronald Koeman has put together just a 3-3 record. All three of those losses have come to top opposition: France, Croatia, and Italy. In June’s UEFA Nations League finals, the Oranje lost both of their matches, despite playing in front of their home fans. The three wins under Koeman have come in UEFA Euro qualifiers games vs. Gibraltar, Greece, and Ireland.

A win here for the Netherlands would go a long way toward helping them qualify for Euro 2024. However, they’re severely shorthanded for this match. Goalkeepers Justin Bijlow and Mark Flekken are both injured, which means Andries Noppert could start in goal. Key players like Matthijs de Ligt, Jurrien Timber, Steven Berghuis, Frenkie de Jong, Noa Lang, Cody Gakpo, and Memphis Depay are all out as well. As a result, the Oranje are home underdogs for Friday’s match.

Gakpo scored in each of the Netherlands’ matches in September and will be missed. Striker Wout Weghorst also scored in the wins vs. Greece and Ireland and he’ll be available on Friday. Ajax striker Brian Brobbey could also make his first appearance for the Oranje. Midfielder Xavi Simons is a player to watch as he’s had an excellent season so far with RB Leipzig.

France on Clean Sheet Streak

France also has a bunch of injuries heading into this pair of qualifiers but they have more depth than the Netherlands. Defenders Axel Disasi, Presnel Kimpembe, William Saliba, Jules Kounde, and Dayot Upamecano are all out but Didier Deschamps can still put together an excellent backline. Les Bleus could trot out Benjamin Pavard, Ibrahima Konate, Lucas Hernandez, and Theo Hernandez on Friday.

Further up the pitch, Christopher Nkunku remains out with a long-term injury. France has one of the best forward lines in the world, regardless. Deschamps can’t fit in all of his world-class players as he can choose from Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, Marcus Thuram, and Kingsley Coman. Mbappe, Giroud, and Griezmann are in the lineup more often than not.

Les Bleus still hasn’t conceded a goal during qualifiers, with five straight clean sheets and five wins. They’re currently in first place in the UEFA Euro qualifiers standings. However, they did lose 2-1 to Germany in a September friendly as none of Mbappe, Giroud, or Griezmann played. With the potential to seal a berth at next Summer’s Euros, expect France to be motivated here.

Match Analysis & Odds

Even though the last meeting finished 4-0 in favor of France, the Netherlands created some good chances and had solid spells of possession. This match figures to be a fair bit closer and under 2.5 goals come in at -115 odds.
