Koepka Headlines US Open Betting Preview

Los Angeles Country Club Hosts

Brooks Koepka headlines our US Open betting preview, which includes the best bets for the third golfing major of the year.

The American comes off a win at the PGA Championship, and his odds of winning US Open are +1100, which is a value line.

Of the recent golf major winners, he’s the one they have to beat, but the likes of Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlroy could stop him.

The Best Majors Player

There is little doubt that Koepka is the best major player in the field, which is why he’s at the top of our US Open betting preview.

The American stud was terrific when winning the PGA Championship, and he probably should have won the Masters as well, so he’s clearly back to his best form.

With five majors under his belt, and the freedom of playing on the LIV Tour, Koepka has become the ultimate major golfer.

Fellow LIV golfer Cameron Smith gave credit to Koepka being healthy.

“He is back to being healthy,” said Cameron Smith, who won the British Open last summer and then joined LIV later in the year. “I think that brings a little bit of internal confidence as well as being out there and just being able to do your stuff.”

He’s currently on the third line of betting at +1100, which is an excellent price. Koepka deserves to be the favorite, and if he was playing on the PGA Tour, he could be a top-three player in the world.

Conditions at the U.S. Open favor him, and he’s a two-time winner of this event in 2017 and 2018.

Scheffler: The One They Want

Money has come for Scheffler, who is the +650 favorite to win his first tournament outside February, March, or April.

We keep mentioning that Scheffler hasn’t won for nine months of the calendar year, but until he wins, we’re going to keep saying it.

However, he’s one of the most consistent golfers in the world, and he only needs his putter to get hot to win. That’s the reality of his game, but putting is the most crucial part of winning golf, and he needs to improve.

The world number one is the +650 favorite, so he can’t be left out of our US Open betting preview. He doesn’t represent value, but we can’t see him not being in the top 10 on the leaderboard throughout the tournament.

This could be Scheffler’s time to shine and his odds are unlikely to drift throughout the week.

Hatton Getting Close

Tyrrell Hatton is one of the most entertaining golfers in the world, mostly because of the anger he reflects upon himself. However, he’s also supremely talented.

He got close to winning last week at the RBC Canadian Open, which is a good sign of things to come.

He’s close to winning a major event, and he only needs to start the tournament slightly better than he has been.

Hatton has been around the mark all year, including a T12 at the Memorial, T15 at the PGA Championship, and a second-place finish at The Players in March.

He might have finished five strokes behind Scheffler, but he closed with a -7 score on Sunday, and that shows enough ability to win at the major level.

He’s a quality European golfer who is overdue a win, so we’re taking the +3000 available at the sportsbook.

Don’t Fall Fowl of Rickie

Rickie Fowler has had a terrific 2023, and that could continue with a win at the U.S. Open this week.

He should enjoy the Los Angeles crowd, and although he hasn’t been in winning form, he is playing well enough to put himself in contention.

The American has been supremely consistent and we’re surprised by the +5500 odds available. That’s a juicy price for someone who knows how to win golf tournaments, so we can’t leave him out of our US Open betting preview.

He is worth backing on a top 10 and top 20 basis. Fowler should enjoy the course and produce the goods.
