Ryder Cup Betting Odds: Europe Gaining Momentum

Europe vs USA in Italy

The Ryder Cup is back and there is excellent value with 2023 Ryder Cup betting odds.

USA is the current favorite, and considering their past Ryder Cup standings, we’re not surprised. However, Europe has a strong, and home course advantage can’t be overlooked.

Action tees off on Friday, and we can’t wait for the drama to begin.

Fresh Faced Europe

We can criticize Europe for not selecting the likes of Sergio Garcia, but it’s hard to disagree with their team.

Leading the way are Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, who are two of the best players on any golf leaderboard. They also have Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrell Hatton, and Viktor Hovland, so it’s a strong lineup.

Our concerns come with Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard, Tommy Fleetwood, and Ludvig Averg, but there is always a better sense of teamsmanship with the Europeans.

Whilst Team USA was arriving on a plane, all wearing matching uniforms and standing with their partners, we couldn’t quite believe it. Europe is more down to earth as a team, and we believe they want it more.

That’s pure speculation of course, but bettors looking to take +110 for Europe should know they’re backing a passionate team with the future in mind.

Captain Luke Donald said he doesn’t think about losing.

“I don’t think about losing,” Donald said. “You prepare the best you can, you go out and you take care of what you can do and hopefully the winning takes care of itself. I’m very big into controlling what you can control and the processes and all that kind of stuff and the result will take care of itself.”

Marco Simone Golf and Country Club is one of those golf courses that suits the Europeans. They have more experience playing in these conditions, so their odds could shorten throughout the week.

Concerns for USA

We are usually confident in the USA’s chances of winning the Ryder Cup, but as Ryder Cup betting odds suggest, there is some trepidation in betting markets.

USA is the -125 favorite, but we have massive concerns over some of their selections. Not necessarily because they shouldn’t be there, but because the team dynamic could be tough.

Having Brooks Koepka in the team is a positive. He’s one of the best players in the world, but how he gels with the PGA Tour players remains to be seen.

We were mostly shocked at the inclusion of Justin Thomas, who has been out of form for most of 2023. The two-time PGA Championship winner is down on confidence, and they also have some weaker players.

Brian Harman, Sam Burns, and Wyndham Clark are your typical Ryder Cup players, so Europe could capitalize on that.

However, team USA is always tough to beat, and they’ll feel confident of leaving Italy with the title.

Rahm to Lead Points Scorers

Rahm looks to carry on the rich tradition of Spanish players at the Ryder Cup.

Garcia is the all-time leading European points scorer, so we think Rahm will chip into that record this week.

He’s the current +800 favorite alongside Scottie Scheffler, who is USA’s top-ranked player. It will mean some tough matches for Rahm, but he loves team formats.

His length matters a lot in the pairings, so we’re happy with the Ryder Cup betting odds for the lovable Spaniard.

For the Americans, Patrick Cantlay is a solid pick at +1000. He might be the most boring and slow golfer on the PGA Tour, but he’s awfully tough to beat.

He went 3-0-1 in the last Ryder Cup, so the +575 for him to be the top points scorer for the USA is a handy wager.

Homa Leads Rookies

It’s an interesting list of rookies, which includes young and experienced golfers.

Max Homa is the current +300 favorite, and although his form has been mixed over the last few months, he looks like a player made for the Ryder Cup.

He loves the fight, and with Aberg on the second line of betting, backing Homa makes sense.

Aberg is a recent winner of the DP World Cup, but he might not be ready for this level of golf against the best players in the world.

Home is more used to playing against the elite, so he tops our Ryder Cup betting odds for the best rookie.

Europe to Win

We’re confidently backing Europe to win the Ryder Cup and send a statement to American golf.

Despite the PGA Tour and LIV Tour gutting the DP World Tour of its best players, European golf is still in a good place.

Whether they play on the PGA or DP World Tour, there is always fresh talent coming through, and that could be evident at the Ryder Cup.

Having the likes of McIlroy, Rahm, and recent FedEx Cup winner Hovland on the team is a luxury. Therefore, Europe has all the makings to hold up the trophy on Sunday.
