2023 Fortinet Championship: Home Run with Homa

Taking Advantage of the Field

Golfers in the 2023 Fortinet Championship have a chance to take advantage of the moderate field this week.

Many players are in Europe for the BMW Championship, which means the first PGA Tour tournament of the new season is up for grabs.

We expect the likes of Max Homa, Justin Thomas, and Sahith Theegala to be near the top of the Fortinet Championship leaderboard.

Homa Headlines Betting

Homa has had a good year, and he’s looking to secure a win before heading to the Ryder Cup.

The American headlines golf odds at +750, which is the shortest you’ll ever see Homa listed at. However, he is the best player in the field apart from Thomas, who is playing some of the worst golf of his career.

The 32-year-old won the Farmers Insurance Open in January, so it has been eight months between drinks for Homa, but he’s the two-time defending Fortinet Championship, so he loves playing this tournament.

It’s likely the only reason he’s playing the 2023 Fortinet Championship. Most of his Ryder Cup teammates are already in Europe, but going for three consecutive wins is rare, so we don’t blame him.

If he goes winless in the Ryder Cup, then blame his decision to play this week.

Both victories at this tournament came by one stroke, including a dramatic win over Danny Willett last year. Willett choked on the final hole to hand Home the win, but if that happens again, bettors won’t care.

He’s our top pick for this golf tournament, so take the odds available.

Hello, Thomas?

Would the real Justin Thomas please stand up?

What on earth is going wrong with Thomas at the moment? The two-time PGA Championship winner has gone off the boil in a big way.

However, we want to believe the American still has enough game to beat this field. He has the class advantage over every player in the field, including Homa, so we’re happy to give him that respect.

Despite being in horrendous form, he was a captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup, which came as a surprise to many. That could spur him on to perform well at the 2023 Fortinet Championship, because if he doesn’t, captain Zach Johnson could have egg over his face.

There were rumors that his father Mike Thomas wasn’t coaching him anymore.

“You’re kidding. That’s just stupid,” Mike Thomas said. “That’s what some people in the media do. It’s ridiculous. I just left Justin. We worked all morning.

“But, listen, if he did fire me, and it was for the better, then what’s the problem? I guess they have to have something to talk about.”

Bettors get +1400 for Thomas, and although there is mounting pressure on him, he’s worth including in selections.

Hossler on Edge of Victory

Beau Hossler hasn’t been too far away from securing his first PGA Tour win, and it could come this week.

The former Texas Longhorn lost in a playoff at the 2018 Houston Open to Ian Poulter, and although he’s not the most consistent golfer on tour, he can shoot low numbers.

He’s a player who doesn’t show up at the majors level. Therefore, this is the ideal tournament to bet on the 28-year-old.

He has been respected in betting markets at +2800, which is a value price. Betting on golf is all about finding value and assessing the risk. Hossler is of course a risky wager, but the odds make it worthwhile.
