Forte Tops Triple Crown Futures Betting

It All Starts with the Kentucky Derby

Triple Crown futures betting markets are available and it’s Forte leading the way.

The Kentucky Derby favorite could be the only runner with a chance of winning the Triple Crown and emulating the efforts of American Pharoah and Justify.

Horse betting odds have +1000 available for a Triple Crown winner in 2023.

Can Forte Win All Three?

Winning the Kentucky Derby is always the hardest for potential Triple Crown winners, but Forte is a live chance.

Triple Crown futures betting odds have him at the top of the market to win the coveted prize, which also includes the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.

The winner of the Kentucky Derby is the only runner capable of winning the Triple Crown, so all eyes are on Forte at Churchill Downs next month. If the Todd Pletcher-trained runner justifies his favoritism tag, his odds to win the three features will firm considerably. Forte owns six wins from seven starts, and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. is happy with his progression.

“His mind has changed a lot, so I’m happy with that,” Ortiz said. “He’s a little more focused, a little more serious on the track. I think he’s figured out what he has to do. I have a lot of confidence in him, and we’ll see what happens.”

It takes a mature 3-year-old to win the Triple Crown, which tests thoroughbreds over three different distances. Forte is clearly the best chance of pulling off the feat, as shown with horse racing odds.

The winner of the Kentucky Derby can get an easier run in the Preakness. It used to be a similar field, but now many of the Derby runners don’t contest the second leg.

Winning the Belmont Stakes is also tough as the drop in distance can catch them out. However, by that time, the field is often depleted.

What About Tapit Trice?

Tapit Trice is on the second line of betting with Triple Crown futures betting. The Pletcher-trained stablemate to Forte has looked impressive throughout his career.

He might not have the same credentials as Forte, but should he win the Kentucky Derby, he looks well-placed to win the Triple Crown.

The son of Tapit has rattled off four consecutive wins, including last time out in the Blue Grass Stakes. We believe he could have more progression than Forte, which means he’ll make a good 4-year-old next season.

“We never felt like distance was going to be an issue,” Pletcher said. “We always felt like more distance would be good for him. We were happy to get him out to a mile-and-an-eighth today and we feel like a mile-and-a-quarter is going to be even better for him.”

Tapit has yet to sire a Kentucky Derby winner, which is hard to believe given his quality progeny.

Triple Crown futures betting has odds of -2000 for the Triple Crown not to be won, but Tapit Trice and Forte could make those odds look silly.

Best of the Rest

Practical Move is the next best chance to win the Triple Crown. The colt by Practical Joke has won three on the bounce, so he’s a confident runner.

His most recent win came in the Santa Anita Derby when beating Mandarin Hero and Skinner, so the form checks out, and the Santa Anita Derby is always a good Kentucky Derby form guide.

We don’t think changing in distance would worry him either, so running in the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes won’t be a concern should he win at Churchill Downs next month.

There has also been some support for Derma Sotogake and Kingsbarns at big odds, but sticking with the three favorites is the best play.
