Head-to-Head Real Madrid vs Girona La Liga odds

This is the second meeting between Real Madrid and Girona on the 2023-24 La Liga schedule. Real Madrid defeated Girona 3-0 in late September and the Catalan club haven’t lost in the league since then. This will be the tenth-ever match between Real Madrid and Girona. Prior to September’s loss, Girona were on a three-game unbeaten streak in this fixture. However, they’re 3-1-5 vs Los Blancos all-time.

Real Madrid Playing With Makeshift Backline

Real Madrid had to play with two fullbacks at center back in the Madrid Derby vs Atletico Madrid. Nacho and Dani Carvajal started with all of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Eder Militao out injured. While Real had more opportunities vs Atletico, Atleti used Real Madrid’s lack of defensive height to their advantage. Atletico Madrid’s best opportunities came on set pieces and crosses.

In the third Madrid Derby in a month’s span, Real Madrid took the lead 20 minutes in as Brahim Diaz slotted home. However, Real couldn’t add to their lead and Atletico made them pay. Memphis Depay headed on a cross late in second half stoppage time, which Marcos Llorente sent into the back of the net. So, Carlo Ancelotti’s side had to settle for a draw, which ended their six game winning streak in La Liga.

Still, Real Madrid hold a two point lead at the top of the table and Girona look to be their only serious challengers. Jude Bellingham remains joint-leader in goals in the La Liga stats, with 14. However, the English international midfielder hasn’t scored from open play since mid-December. It remains to be seen whether Rudiger or Vincius Jr. return for this match. Regardless, the Real Madrid vs Girona La Liga odds currently price the La Liga leaders as -220 favorites.

Girona Held Scoreless by Real Sociedad

Girona had a goal called back for offside and couldn’t find a breakthrough in Saturday’s match vs Real Sociedad. A win would have put Girona level on points with Real Madrid but they had to settle for a scoreless draw. Girona are firmly in second place in the La Liga table, six points ahead of Barcelona at the moment.

Although they’ve drawn two of their last four La Liga matches, Girona have conceded just one goal during that time. Unfortunately, Artem Dovbyk, who is level on goals with Real’s Bellingham, is out injured for the next few weeks. Portu started in Dovbyk’s place vs Real Sociedad and Cristhian Stuani is another option while the Ukrainian is sidelined. Girona have scored more goals than any other La Liga team this season and they have multiple weapons.

Taty Castellanos, who scored four goals vs Real Madrid last season, joined Lazio last Summer. Still, all of Stuani, Viktor Tsygankov, Yangel Herrera, Ivan Martin and Savio have also reached the four goal threshold this season. Along with Dovbyk, David Lopez is also on the Girona injured list. Notably, Girona are still unbeaten on the road this season, with an 8-3-0 record.

Match Analysis & Odds

Even though Real Madrid have some key defenders out and Girona have been excellent this season, the oddsmakers aren’t showing Girona much respect here. Currently, the Real Madrid vs Girona La Liga odds price the visitors as 1.5-goal underdogs. Real Madrid enter as -220 favorites but they haven’t won either of their last two matches at home vs Girona.

Neither team has lost a La Liga match since September and with the title implications, this match is a can’t-miss. Girona are +550 underdogs but this certainly wouldn’t be the first time they turn heads this season. It will hurt having their leading scorer out for this one but Girona still have key attacking pieces available.

A draw comes in at +385 odds and it would keep Real Madrid on top of the table for now. Real are -700 favorites to win La Liga at the moment but those odds could dramatically shift with a Girona win. Bettors can also take Real -1.5 at +130 and Girona +1.5 at -150 odds here. These are the top two scoring teams in the league and over three goals are priced at -140 odds.
