Yankees vs Marlins Betting Preview: Marlins Eyeing Third Win

Marlins, Yankees Struggling to Pick Up Wins in August

Miami Hopes to Keep on Cooking at Home When Yankees Come Show Up

Not all numbers are treated the same. When looking at the Yankees vs Marlins betting preview, the Marlins have just one more win than the Yankees. However, Miami is holding down the final playoff spot in the National League while the Yankees are in last place in the American League East Division and 4.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the AL.

When the teams played a three-game series in 2022, the Yankees won all three games with a total of 14 runs scored as all three games finished under the total.

This will be just the second time that Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton will play a series in Miami since leaving the Marlins to join the Yankees in 2018. He was 3-for-9 with a home run in two games versus Miami in 2018.

Miami is 10 games over .500 at home with the Yankees just 24-28 on the road this season.

The road team has won seven of the last nine games between the teams. The Marlins still feature the 2023 MLB stat leader as second baseman Luis Arraez tops the majors with a .369 batting average.

Both the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins are priced at +8000 in the odds to win the World Series.

Date, time:

Probable Starting Pitchers

  • Friday: To Be Announced (Yankees); Jesus Luzardo (Marlins)
  • Saturday: Nestor Cortes (Yankees); Sandy Alcantara (Marlins)
  • Sunday: Gerrit Cole (Yankees); Eury Perez (Marlins)

Torres Continuing to Produce

While many of his teammates are either landing on the injured list or struggling to come through on a consistent basis, Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres is quite a tear.

Torres struggled during June with a .198 batting average and almost as many strikeouts as hits. It is a different story in August as he batting .441 with seven runs, three doubles and two home runs. He will head into the series on a nine-game hitting streak. Keep that in mind when it comes to the Yankees vs Marlins betting preview.

Luzardo, Alcantara Pitching In

Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara’s 4-10 record and 4.28 ERA are not what was expected from the team ace. However, he has dropped his ERA from 5.08 over his last eight starts as he has allowed two runs or less in five of his last eight outings.

Jesus Luzardo had a 4.17 ERA in mid-June. Since then, he is 3-1 with at least eight strikeouts in six of his last nine games.

When it comes to the Yankees vs Marlins betting preview, keep in mind that Luzardo and Alcantara are set to pitch in the first two games in this series.

Who’s Hot

  • Josh Bell, Miami Marlins 1B: Bell is hitting .323 with two doubles, three home runs and seven RBIs in eight games since being acquired from Cleveland.
  • Michael King, New York Yankees P: King hasn’t allowed a run in his last seven appearances. He has given up six hits and struck out 14 batters in eight innings of work.
  • Andrew Nardi, Miami Marlins P: Nardi has allowed two hits and no runs with five strikeouts in three innings in the three games since coming off the injured list.
  • Giancarlo Stanton, New York Yankees OF: Stanton has a double, four home runs and nine RBIs over his last eight games.

Who’s Not

  • Avisail Garcia, Miami Marlins OF: Garcia has one hit and has struck out 10 times in 19 at-bats over the last six games.
  • Kyle Higashioka, New York Yankees C: Higashioka is 2-for-13 with four strikeouts in his last six games.
  • Wandy Peralta, New York Yankees P: Peralta has allowed five hits, three home runs and five runs over 3.2 innings in his last three outings.
  • David Robertson, Miami Marlins P: Robertson has surrendered four hits, two home runs and five runs in four innings over his last four appearances.

Yankees vs Marlins Injury Update

Infielder DJ LeMahieu is questionable for the series opener with calf tightness that forced him to miss the last two games for the Yankees while pitcher Carlos Rodon is on the injured list.

For Miami, outfielder Victor Mesa is out.

Yankees vs Marlins Betting Preview

This is not exactly a clash of teams peaking at the perfect time. The Yankees are 10-14 and the Marlins 7-17 since play resumed following the MLB All-Star Game. One thing to consider when checking out the MLB stats, the pitching staffs have combined to allow 78 home runs during that stretch.

When looking at the MLB team stats, the Yankees are 10th and the Marlins 16th in team ERA in 2023.

The injury to Rodon leaves the Yankees pretty thin in starting pitching heading into the series, especially with Nestor Cortes just recently returning to the rotation.

Just two of the last eight games between the Marlins and Yankees finished over the total.

The Yankees have lost eight of their last 10 road games with the total going under in seven of Miami’s last 10 home games.

The teams are a combined 72-50 this season when listed as the favorite compared to a 42-54 mark as underdogs.

The Yankees have covered in 28 of the 52 road games while the Marlins are just 24-34 against the spread at home in 2023.
