Yankees vs White Sox Odds: New York’s Still In Contention

New York's 3-Game Bout vs. White Sox is Important

The New York Yankees are no longer in last place in the American League East. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the Yankees are still 4.5 games out of an AL Wild Card spot and 12 games back from first in the American League East.

The Yankees haven’t had former AL MVP Aaron Judge for most of the season. Meanwhile, the Yankees also didn’t do much at the MLB Trade Deadline to get better. But somehow, a team that looks extremely weak has found a way to stay in contention for an MLB playoff spot this year.

New York has a great chance to jump up the MLB standings to start the week. They’ll face a Chicago White Sox team with only 45 wins. Chicago waived the white flag at the MLB Trade Deadline. They’ve got a win percentage below 40% on the year, despite going 6-4 in its last ten games.

The Yankees can’t afford a series loss to the White Sox on the Major League schedule if they want to remain in the playoff hunt.

Here’s a look at the Yankees vs White Sox odds for the American League series.

Yankees Plagued With Injuries

The Yankees lost Aaron Judge for most of the season with a toe injury. Since returning, he’s struggled to find his swing. Judge hasn’t been consistent recently. Meanwhile, DH Giancarlo Stanton has had a lingering hamstring injury and has shown no effort when running around the basepaths.

On top of that, the Yankees won’t have Josh Donaldson anytime soon and have been waiting for Nestor Cortes to return to the mound for two months with a strained rotator cuff. Another starter, Frankie Montas, hasn’t even seen the mound for the Yankees this season.

And to make things more interesting, Carlos Rodon, who was injured before the season began, is now injured again.

To add insult to injury – Domingo German, he’s out for the year after going rogue while intoxicated in the Yankees locker room before a game.

However, the Yankees are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. New York hasn’t played above expectations this year, but they’ve been able to win enough with little talent.

Possible Suspensions for Chicago

On Saturday, the Chicago White Sox were involved in a brawl with the Cleveland Guardians. Jose Ramirez of the Guardians took exception to Tim Anderson’s heavy tag and unloaded a right hook on Tim Anderson as they squared up to fight.

There were six ejections in that game, and suspensions will likely follow.

Anderson will be suspended. However, he could appeal a suspension and continue playing while the appeal process continues.

Ramirez said that Anderson had disrespected the game for a long time in the MLB.

We think White Sox fans would agree. The White Sox team disrespected the MLB and their fans by playing poorly this year. The White Sox are in the worst division in MLB and had high MLB odds to begin the year. But they never came through and had to sell off a lot of good talent.

Game 1

Gerrit Cole vs. Dylan Cease
Monday, 8:10 p.m. ET

Gerrit Cole has been the glue guy for the Yankees. Cole is the favorite to win the AL Cy Young award this season. He’s struck out nearly 32% of batters over the last month and has allowed a .110 ISO and wOBA of .208. He has also thrown over 100 pitches per start over the previous month and has limited walks to 4.1%.

On the other hand, Dylan Cease will get the call. He was a hot topic at the MLB Trade Deadline, but the White Sox kept this ace pitcher. Cease has allowed a .378 wOBA over the last month and rarely earns ground balls. He’s also allowed 40% of line drives over the previous month.

The Yankees will take on three righties in the White Sox rotation. Jake Bauers, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton have all hit for high power against righties over the last month. However, the rest of the team has been dreadful offensively. The only thing they’re good at is earning walks.

On the other hand, the White Sox’s starting lineup has hit a .101 ISO and wOBA of .262 against righties over the last month. This lineup has also struck out 26.8% of the time against righties.

That’s why the Yankees have the edge in this one. The Yankees vs White Sox odds have New York sitting at -162 on the road. The White Sox are currently at +136 on the road, and the total is 7.5, with the over juiced to -120/+100.

Game 2

Clarke Schmidt vs. Touki Toussaint
Tuesday, 8:10 p.m. ET

The Yankees vs White Sox odds for Game 2 of the series should have New York favored. Clarke Schmidt has held teams to a .297 wOBA over the last month and has earned 50% of ground balls. Schmidt is a righty, allowing just 15.2% of fly balls, and has limited teams to 21.2% of line drives. He won’t earn a high rate of strikeouts. But he can get easy contact in play to record his outs.

Conversely, Touki Toussaint will take the ball for Game 2. Toussaint has allowed more power to righties over the last month. Against his last 49 righties, Toussaint has given up a .163 ISO and wOBA of .341 over the previous month. The Yankees’ lineup, other than Jake Bauers, should have a quality evening against Toussaint, knowing they’ve got more righties than lefties in the everyday lineup.

Game 3

TBD vs. Mike Clevinger
Wednesday, 8:10 p.m. ET

The Yankees might look to replace Luis Severino’s spot in the rotation moving forward. At this point, you’d have to assume Jhony Brito will get the start. Severino is just lost right now.

Brito hasn’t been much better. But maybe he has more success in his second start this month. Brito faced 18 batters in his last start and allowed a .765 ISO and wOBA of .621. On the season, Brito has allowed a .248 ISO and wOBA of .358 to 238 batters. If it’s Severino or Brito, this is the game where the White Sox can earn a win, and the total can get over.

On the other hand, Mike Clevinger is slated for a start in Game 3. He’s only struck out 12.8% of batters in the last month but has kept teams to a .305 wOBA against his previous 39 batters faced. Clevinger still allows a high rate of fly balls and doesn’t induce many ground balls. Lefties are also hitting a high hard contact rate against Clevinger. But, again, the Yankees mainly have right-handed bats against righties. Clevinger has done much better against righties throughout the year.

Clevinger will give you a mixed bag of results. The Yankees will get some hard hits off him, but they’ll need to clutch up and earn hits with runners on base.

As a reminder, Brito hasn’t been confirmed as a starter at the time of writing this. Wait for the confirmed starting pitcher for the Yankees to get your MLB betting news and complete analysis on this game.

If Brito starts against Clevinger, this is the game to ride the Over.
