Brewers vs Braves Betting Game Preview: Atlanta’s Going To Be OK!

Atlanta Has Lost Seven of Their Last 10 Games

The Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers will play a three-game series over the weekend. These teams lead in their respective divisions and are high in the MLB Power Rankings. However, Milwaukee is holding onto first place with little room for error. The Brewers are only leading the Cincinnati Reds by 1.5 games heading into the weekend.

On the other hand, the Braves have a 10-game lead in the NL East, despite going 3-7 in their last ten games. At the moment, the Brewers are the hotter team. Will that change this series?

Here’s our Brewers vs Braves betting game preview and MLB predictions for the weekend series.

What Does Atlanta Need?

After the first half concluded, the Braves looked like the perfect team. However, the Braves have come back to life in the second half. They’ve gone 3-7 in their last ten games. It’s been a wake-up call.

Although the Braves barely lost any ground in the NL East, Atlanta isn’t playing well enough with the players on the roster.

Atlanta has Yonny Chirinos lined up to pitch in the first game of this series. They’ve also got Charlie Morton, Spencer Strider, and Bryce Elder. They’re waiting on Max Fried and Kyle Wright and could probably use more starting pitching depth.

Meanwhile, Marcell Ozuna has taken a plunge for the Braves in the second half. They might also want to look for a designated hitter to play the outfield.

Christian Yelich’s Resurgence

Milwaukee has always had great pitching. But the offense has been hot and cold since Christian Yelich wore a Brewers uniform.

Yelich dominated many MLB stats categories in 2018 and 2019, adding an average of nearly .330 and an OBP of over .400. But after those two seasons, he never returned to hitting these numbers until this year.

Yelich is having a resurgence at the top of the lineup for the Brewers. He’s hitting .293 and has 15 home runs this season. He hadn’t hit 15+ home runs since 2019, and we’ve still got plenty of baseball on the schedule in the second half of the season.

It’s fun to see one of the good guys in baseball get back to performing at a high level in the league. Kudos to the Brewers for always believing and trusting Yelich through his slumps.

Game 1

Adrian Houser vs. Yonny Chirinos
Friday, 7:20 p.m. ET

Adrian Houser is scheduled to take the mound for Game 1 in this series for the Brewers. He’s got a 3.86 ERA on the year but has allowed his last 50 lefties to hit a .268 ISO and wOBA of .373. Houser typically gives up more fly balls than ground balls induced against lefties over the previous month.

The Braves have some powerful lefties in their lineup, including Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Eddie Rosario, and Michael Harris.

Atlanta will pitch Yonny Chirinos tonight. He last pitched on July 16 against the Royals for the Tampa Bay Rays. This will be his first start for the Braves this year. In his last beginning, he struggled against one of the worst teams in the MLB, but the Braves still brought him in for added depth. Chirinos has allowed a .356 ISO and wOBA of .444 to his previous 63 batters faced. He’s been terrible against both sides of the plate and likely won’t go very deep in this game.

Despite Chirinos’ struggles, the Braves are sitting at -156 at home against the Brewers for Game 1. The Brewers have a +141 line, with the total at 10. The under is juiced to -115, with the under at -105.

Game 2

Julio Teheran vs. Bryce Elder
Saturday, 7:20 p.m. ET

If you’re looking for a Brewers vs Braves betting game preview for Game 2, I got you covered.

Julio Teheran will face his old team once again. Teheran has allowed a .280 ISO and wOBA of .377 to his last 98 batters. He’s also thrown an average of 84.5 pitches per game in the previous month and has been awful against both sides of the plate. His strike rate is still down to 17.4% on the season.

Meanwhile, the Braves will turn to All-Star starter Bryce Elder. Elder has put together a tremendous year for the Braves. However, over the last month, he’s allowed a .204 ISO and wOBA of .369 to his previous 115 batters. He’s also throwing just 88 pitches per game, compared to 93.45 per game throughout the season.

But other than Christian Yelich, the Brewers haven’t had much consistency against righties over the last month.

We’ll likely see plenty of offense in this game too.

Game 3

Colin Rea vs. TBD
Sunday, 1:35 p.m. ET

In Game 3, Colin Rea will take the hill. The right-hander has a 5-4 record but a 4.53 ERA. He’s also allowed a .353 ISO and wOBA of .415 to his last 36 lefties faced.

Milwaukee pitchers have done well keeping walks down. But those left-handed batters for the Braves should tee off throughout the entire series.

On the other hand, we’ll have to wait on the Brewers vs Braves betting game pick in Game 3 as we don’t know who will start for the Braves in this game yet.
