Hometown Hero Kyle Busch Running Xfinity Series Race; But Should He be the Fav?
Alsco Uniforms 300 Odds Preview: The NASCAR Xfinity Series had its first rain delay of the season in Fontana last week. The race moved from Saturday to Sunday thanks to heavy rains. After nearly two dozen lead changes, John Hunter Nemechek took the win ahead of Sam Mayer and Justin Allgaier.
Now, the Xfinity Series heads east to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Here’s a look at the Alsco Uniforms 300 odds:
Top Performers Lead the Way
Nemechek (+550) went one better in Fontana after notching second place in the season opener in Daytona. He’s rightfully near the top. So is Justin Allgaier (+600) who currently sits third in the Xfinity Series standings.
Nemechek is off to the best start of his career with a pair of podiums. He has a good history in Las Vegas. Highlights include a win in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2021 and a second-place finish in 2019 in the Xfinity Series. There’s a chance he’ll continue his good form.
Allgaier’s started off the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity schedule with a pair of third-place finishes. Las Vegas has consistently been a good track for him and he could break through this week. In his last 11 Xfinity Series races there, Allgaier’s totaled eight top-five finishes. He hasn’t won in Las Vegas yet but that could change come Saturday.
The driver with the best odds for a win is Kyle Busch (+175). The two-time Cup Series champion and Las Vegas native has won at his home track three times in his career, including two Xfinity Series victories. Busch is on a great run in the second-tier series. He’s won his last five Xfinity Series races (all in 2021) in a row and six of his last 10. Busch has only missed the podium once in that time. He’s the heavy favorite for very good reasons.
Past Winners With Good Odds
Cole Custer (+500) won the first and second stages in Fontana last week but ended up 27th. He has not performed particularly well in Las Vegas before. Pole position in the 2019 and 2018 races translated to fourth- and third-place finishes, respectively. He’ll be looking to get a win on the board but the field may be too strong this week.
Next-best NASCAR odds for victory belong to Josh Berry (+700). His results in Las Vegas are impressive: two wins in the last three races. Berry bounced back in Fontana from a 26th-place finish in Daytona by taking fifth place. In 2022, he followed a fourth-place finish in Fontana with the same result in Las Vegas. If it weren’t for Busch, we’d like those odds even more.
Full-time Cup Series racer Tyler Reddick (+800) completes the top six best odds for the week. He won the 2019 September Xfinity race in Las Vegas but hasn’t matched that since. A 36th-place finish in Fontana reflects how his Cup Series season has gone so far: 39th in Daytona and 34th last week.
Predictions for the Alsco Uniforms 300
It’s hard to bet against Busch in his home race. He’s won there before many times and has shined in the Xfinity when he’s raced there over the last few years. His odds are much better than the rest of the field and it’s easy to imagine him getting his second win this week after taking the chequered flag in Fontana.
If you want to look past Busch, Berry is arguably the best choice. JR Motorsports consistently performed well at high-speed intermediate tracks last year with four wins and 17 top-five finishes. The team especially dominated in the two Las Vegas events by leading nearly three-quarters of the laps run in the Xfinity Series in 2022.
