Warriors vs Lakers Odds: Is the Dynasty Over?

Warriors Look to Avoid Elimination

Lakers Ready to Send Hosts Packing

The LA Lakers will look to put the final nail in the coffin of the Golden State Warriors when they head to Chase Center for Game 5 of their second-round series. Let’s take a look at the Warriors vs Lakers Odds and see what value jumps out for bettors ahead of this Warriors vs Lakers matchup.

The Warriors will feel they let one go in LA in Game 5 as they blew a double-digit lead in their 104-101 loss. Golden State was held to just 17 points in the final quarter and allowed the Lakers to close the game on an 8-2 run over the final 3:02 of the game as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson came up short when it mattered most.

The Lakers have Lonnie Walker IV to thank for not heading to San Francisco with the series tied as his career-high 15 point game helped them dominate the final term. All 15 of his points came in the fourth quarter as he finished with more made field goals than the entire Warriors team in the final 12 minutes.

Golden State has opened as 5.5-point favorites for Game 5 while the total has been set at 226.0 points.

Warriors Need Stars to Align

Coach Steve Kerr made the adjustment to start Gary Payton II in Game 4 and it certainly paid dividends as he finished a +3 during his 23 minutes on the floor.

Payton scored 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting but was left out of the closing lineup in place of Moses Moody, who also finished the game a +2 while going 3-for-3 from the field for 7 points.

While the production from role players was as good as possible it was the languishing effort from the dynasty trio that ultimately proved costly for the Warriors.

Draymond Green was -10 in his 37 minutes on the floor and finished with a team-high 5 turnovers, including a pair of costly ones in the fourth quarter. Klay Thompson finished with just 9 points on 3-for-11 shooting and went 0-for-2 on late three-point attempts, much to the dismay of coach Kerr.

Steph Curry was terrific for almost the entire game, but he too went cold in the final minutes and finished the game just 3-for-14 from deep. His 31-point triple-double was certainly worthy of a winning performance, but tired legs certainly showed up in the clutch and as a result the Warriors simply couldn’t execute in the manner we’ve become so accustomed to over the years.

If the team is going to extend this series it’s going to come down to the Splash Brothers finding their rhythm and stretching the Lakers defense. Kerr did a terrific job of pulling Anthony Davis away from the paint in pick-and-roll action and it resulted in the Warriors scoring 52 points in the paint – four more than what LA managed in the game.

If they can replicate that while getting their star trio to execute at their best there’s every reason to believe this series is headed back to LA, but without it the team may finally be set to suffer their first series loss together when everyone shares the floor.

Lakers Depth Providing Rest

With the series being played every other day the fatigue factor is something that has certainly been a topic of conversation. So far, the Lakers look the better equipped to handle it as they continue to find reliable production from guys on the bench that can allow LeBron James and Anthony Davis to inject themselves when it matters most.

Walker IV may not have been among the NBA points leaders in Game 4, but that production was invaluable and is something that LA has gotten in their wins so far this series.

Game 3 saw D’Angelo Russell go off for 21 points against his old team, while their Game 1 win came with a 19 point effort from Dennis Schroeder off the bench.

The Lakers had a 27-21 advantage in bench scoring in Game 4 and Jordan Poole’s struggles combined with Walker’s effectiveness ultimately proved the difference between a series tied at 2-2 and the Lakers holding a commanding 3-1 lead.

With LeBron and Davis again logging 43 minutes a piece in Game 5 I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a back seat on the road in Game 5. If LA again finds ways to get strong contributions from their second unit then their superstar duo might be able to takeover down the stretch with fresher legs to steal another road win.

Both teams should be fully healthy and the NBA injury report hasn’t shown anyone being questionable for this pivotal game. The Warriors remain a juggernaut at home and betting against them in a desperation spot is a bold strategy to say the least.

Look for the Warriors to start strong in this one and their first quarter and first half lines should be appealing for those looking to find a best bet in this one.
