Las Vegas Bowl Betting Odds & Preview: Florida vs Oregon State

Beavers Huge Favorites Over Disappointing Gators

The Las Vegas Bowl can’t come soon enough for the Florida Gators. Each passing day has practically seen UF lose another NCAAF player. That’s not exactly good news against an Oregon State team that won five of its last six games. That’s also the primary reason why the Las Vegas Bowl betting odds have moved so much in this one.

Beavers Now Favored by Double Digits

The Las Vegas Bowl betting odds saw the Beavers open as 4-point favorites. Then Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson announced he wouldn’t play in the game. Backup quarterback Jalen Kitna was arrested for child pornography and the line climbed even higher. The spread is currently Oregon State -11.

The Las Vegas Bowl betting odds on the total has also seen some movement. The opening total was 55.5 and the number is down to 51.5. The total dropping makes sense, as the Gators will be without their top two quarterbacks.

Naturally, the Las Vegas Bowl betting odds have seen the moneyline make a massive jump in this one, as well. The Beavers are up to -390, as most bettors are no longer questioning if the Beavers will win, but rather how much they will win by.

FLAFlorida Gators

Jack Miller III is Florida’s third-string quarterback and he’s trying to battle back from an injury. The former Ohio State Buckeye signal caller didn’t play a down for the Gators this season. He did see a bit of playing time for the Buckeyes in 2021 before being suspended by the team for a DUI arrest.

If Miller can’t go, next on the Florida quarterback pecking order is redshirt sophomore walk-on Kyle Engel. He did appear in a game this season but hasn’t attempted a pass in college football.

You can pretty much discount the Florida offensive stats when making your Las Vegas Bowl predictions due to the quarterback situation. The Gators did rush for 214.3 yards per game and average 6.0 yards per carry. But part of that is due to Richardson’s 654 rushing yards and 6.3 yards per carry average. Teams also had to respect the pass some even though it wasn’t a strong suit for the team.

The Gator defense has also taken a bit of a hit with star linebacker Ventrell Miller announcing Wednesday, Dec. 7, he would skip the game. That’s in addition to seven more Gators entering the transfer portal the same day, bringing the total to 18 players since the end of the season. The Gators were a little better than average defensively, allowing 28.8 points to teams who scored 30.4 points. But Florida did allow 36.0 points on the road and this game is the farthest West the Gators have played since 1989. The time change for the Raiders also means the Gators will be playing at 11:30 a.m. EST.

ORSTOregon State Beavers

The Beavers enter this game on a high note, having beaten rival Oregon in the Civil War to conclude the season. After going 9-3 on the year, this game may be a bit of a disappointment for Oregon State. But there’s nothing like a big name SEC opponent to get a team motivated. The Beavers also have a chance to win 10 games for just the third time in school history.

The Beavers like to run the ball and they do it well. Oregon State ran 40 times per game and passed 25. The Beavers averaged 199.8 rushing yards and 200.4 passing yards per game. Oregon State had three running backs with more than 400 rushing yards, with freshman Damien Martinez leading the way with 970 yards and seven touchdowns. While the Beavers averaged 32.4 points per game their opponents allowed an average of 30.6 points.

The Beavers were strong against the run, allowing 114.2 yards and pretty solid against the pass.

The Oregon State defense was solid, allowing 21.4 points to teams that averaged 30.3 points. The Beavers were strong against the run, allowing 114.2 yards and pretty solid against the pass. Defensive back Rejzohn Wright did announce late Wednesday, Dec. 7, that he was going to skip the game. The projected second-round NFL draft pick 1 tied for the team lead with nine passes defended.

The Beavers were a strong 10-2 against the college football point spread this season. Oregon State didn’t cover the number in back-to-back games games at Utah and at Stanford in October. OSU has covered the spread in its last six games.

Will Beavers’ Ground Game Get it Done?

The Las Vegas Bowl betting odds make this a tough game to handicap due to all of the unknown factors. The Beavers deserve to be double-digit favorites in this one and appear to have more to play for. OSU head coach Jonathan Smith was a quarterback but knows there are times you simply run the ball. The Beavers had just 60 passing yards in the win against Oregon.

Oregon State will likely come out and look to move the ball on the ground. The Gators could do the same in light of their quarterback situation, which may bode well for those taking the under. Some of the value is gone with the drop in the total but that looks to be the way to go in this one.
