Are Tyler Boyd’s Stats Due For Explosion in Contract Year?

Receiver Could Put Up Career Stars in Final Year with Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals have the best wide receiver trio in the NFL when Tyler Boyd is their third receiver. Boyd has recorded a pair of 1,000+ yard receiving seasons and is behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. But now he’s entering his contract year and could be due for a big new deal when he produces. Thus, fans can expect Tyler Boyd’s stats to get a boost this 2023.

Cincinnati’s Unsung Hero

When it comes to the Bengals’ success, a lot of is attributed to quarterback Joe Burrow and star receiver Ja’Marr Chase. But Boyd has just been as instrumental as the team’s third receiver. He’s frequently come up with big plays for Cincy and its NFL team records are affected when he’s not fully available.

In fact, Boyd believes the Bengals lost to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game because he got hurt. And many fans would echo his sentiments.

“Still to this day, I feel like if I would have played the whole game, I was the key factor,” Boyd said. “We would’ve won the game.”

Indeed, Cincinnati defeated Kansas City the last two times it faced it with Boyd in the lineup. While Tyler Boyd’s stats were not mind-blowing, his presence allowed Burrow more options and also took pressure off Chase and Tee Higgins.

Thus, Cincinnati needs Boyd to continue producing as the second/third option behind Chase.

Tyler Boyd’s Player Profile & Stats

The Bengals drafted Boyd in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent his first two seasons primarily as a backup. In 2018, with star receiver A.J. Green getting hurt, Boyd broke out and posted his first 1,000-yard season. He then established himself as one of the best NFL players with yet another similar season in 2019.

Last Year’s Stats

Tyler Boyd’s stats for 2022 remained similar from since Joe Burrow joined the team in 2020. Consider that Boyd has come off the bench in some games and is a third option behind Chase and Higgins. Many NFL teams would pay to have a player like Boyd.

Where Will Boyd Go?

As much as the Bengals would like to keep Boyd around, they may not have the space to sign him. The team will prioritize re-signing Higgins (who is also on an expiring deal) and Chase the next year after. Either that or Boyd signs on a team-friendly deal so Cincinnati can keep him and the pair of star receivers.

The Bengals would rather not mess with the room that has gotten them up the NFL conference standings. While Boyd is the third receiver, he plays a pivotal role in what this team does on offense.
