NHL: Winnipeg Jets vs Seattle Kraken Betting Preview

The Jets trail Stars by two points for the Central lead, Kraken on the outside looking in

The Winnipeg Jets (39-17-5, 83 points) start a small two-game road trip beginning with the completion of the back end of a home and home against the Seattle Kraken (28-23-11, 67 points).

The Kraken won the first game (4-3) as a -160 underdog with a late goal, but they’re still six points behind the Nashville Predators and the Vegas Golden Knights for the last wild card spot. Winnipeg is in a dog fight with the Dallas Stars (85 points) and the Colorado Avalanche (83 points) for the top spot in the Central Division.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Winnipeg Hopes To Bolster Top Six

Let the trade deadline and NHL scoreboard-watching begin. The Winnipeg Jets will start the day in hopes of adding some top-line scoring to a top six that has just two 20-goal scorers in Kyle Connor (26 goals) and Sean Monahan (21 G).

The Jets are 17th in goals per game (3.11) and 24th in power-play goals. Time is running out for a team that is having attendance issues (30th in the NHL) despite a good season and one that is currently ranked 9th in our latest NHL power ranking (4th in the West).

We still think Rick Bowness’s team is good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs, but a lack of movement at the deadline will send the wrong message, especially when so many of the top NHL teams have already made massive moves. This season, Winnipeg has produced 6.74 units of profit (fifth best in the NHL).

As a favorite, the Jets are 30-11 (+6.94 units), and as a road favorite are 11-6 (+0.90 units). Recent form shows Winning winners of nine of their last 13 (+2.26 units) and 7-2 as a favorite in that span (+0.88 units), along with a 2-2 mark as a road favorite (-0.75 units). The Jets Stanley Cup odds are 14-1 (10th choice).

Kraken Starting To Heat Up

As of right now, we don’t think the Seattle Kraken will make the postseason, but much can change on trade deadline day for the suddenly scorching hot Kraken, who have won 7 of their last 10 games with an overtime loss mixed in (7-2-1).

One of those losses was a 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on a night where the argument could be made that Seattle was just a little bit better had it not been for some key saves by Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner.

The Kraken are six points behind the Nashville Predators and Vegas Golden Knights for a wild card spot, but they do have two games in hand in Nashville, with one head-to-head meeting remaining.

They have the third easiest schedule down the stretch with three hockey games against the Ducks and two against the San Jose Sharks and Arizona Coyotes.

Unfortunately, for a team that struggles to find offense (28th in NHL), they’ll be without 11-goal scorer Vince Dunn, who suffered an upper-body injury after getting crushed by Calgary’s Martin Pospisil. In terms of betting, Seattle is 28-34 (-5.77 units, 22nd) and 16-24 (-3.39 units) as an underdog.

At home, the Kraken is just 5-11 as a home dog (-4.83 units, 30th in the NHL). Over the last month, Seattle has improved to +3.99 units won (7-5), 6-2 as a dog (+6.06 units), and 2-1 as a home dog.

The Kraken are 19th in our power rankings and just outside the top eight. The Kraken are 125-1 to win the Stanley Cup. We conclude our Jets vs Kraken preview with our official selection.

Not Much Movement Yet, But Jets Money Is Coming

With this being a revenge spot and the Jets perceived as the better team, the Winnipeg money is going to push this moneyline in the Jets’ favor before the puck drops.

Our focus is on the total. Winnipeg, which has been an under team (22-31-8) for most of the year, suddenly found some offense with 13 goals in their last three games.

The Kraken are similar with a small lean on the under for the hockey season (27-31-4). They have eight goals in their last two games after putting up four apiece against Winnipeg and Calgary. We’re betting that this game cruises over, too, making it our official selection.
