After 28 postseason games, the favorite has won 16 times, leaving favorite bettors down 239 units. Road teams have lit up the betting scoreboard with a 17-11 record (+708 units). Let’s continue our NHL playoff recap and preview by looking at a couple of series’ that are producing duckets for the public and books.

Hurricanes, 3-1, Appear to Have Islanders Number

Of all the playoff series, the Carolina Hurricanes are rolling after a convincing 5-2 win on the island, Sunday. Sebastian Aho’s second playoff goal at the 13:30 mark of the second period gave Carolina a 3-0 lead.

We would be surprised if the Hurricanes didn’t finish this series off at home because they are clearly the better team and own the physicality advantage. Hurricane bettors have enjoyed 120 units of profit through four games, the best unit-won mark in the postseason.

At least it appears as if the ‘Cane is a reliable early wager after bringing in a 16-17 record (-519 units) playoff record since 2020. Game five is set for Tuesday at PNC Arena where the Islanders have dropped eight of their last 10 meetings. Overall, Carolina has won 16 of 21 games with the Islanders.

Kings, Oilers 2-2, Bettors in Black With LA

The Los Angeles Kings were up 2-1 in their best-of-seven series against the Edmonton Oilers, Sunday. They owned a 3-0 lead after Anze Kopitar’s backhander, but yet, there was still an uneasy feeling for bettors at various books because you knew the Oilers wouldn’t go down easy.

Evan Bouchard scored at the 4:55 mark of the second period to start the Edmonton scoring, and before the second-period horn blew, the game was tied at three after a Leon Draisaitl goal with 11 seconds remaining.

The Kings reimagined the lead in the third after a Matt Roy goal but with 3:02 left in the game, an Evander Kane wrister found its way past Joonas Korpisalo, who had 37 saves, to even the game up once again. Zach Hyman scored in overtime to give the Oilers a 5-4 win, tying the series up at two games a piece.

Edmonton was a -185 favorite and was backed by 90% of the moneyline dollars behind 80% of the tickets. Game four is Tuesday, the Oilers are -240 favorites. Even though the series is tied, Los Angeles is +104 units with their two wins as a big dog.

NHL Playoffs Series Notes and Betting Trends

Tonight’s NHL Schedule begins with the New York Rangers (2-1) at New Jersey Devils in a series that is a small surprise with New York leading.

Devils rookie goaltender, Akira Schmidt, had 35 saves in game three and Dougie Hamilton put home the OT winner to give the Devils a 2-1 win. Since 1994, the Rangers are 11-3 in playoff series they led 2-1.

One of those losses was last season to the Tampa Bay Lightning as the Rangers ran out of gas to the eventual Eastern Conference champions.

Speaking of Tampa Bay, the Toronto Maple Leafs can back the champs into a corner with a win tonight, leading the series 2-1 after an OT win in game three. Don’t expect any panic in Tampa who outshot the Leafs 39-27.

The Lightning held a 3-2 lead with one minute left in game three. Toronto is a -115 road favorite with 85% of the money coming in on Tampa Bay.

The Winnipeg Jets are a pick’em at home against the Vegas Golden Knights who overcame a tough crowd at the MTS Center to take a 2-1 lead in the series after a 5-4 double OT win in game three.

Michael Amadio scored at the 3:40 mark to win it for a team that has made Amadio a healthy scratch 15 times this season. In their brief history, Vegas is 4-1 in playoff series they’ve led 2-1. 57% of the money is in on the Knights with 62% of the tickets written on the Jets. Looks like we have another ‘Pros vs. Joe’s’ tonight.

NHL stats show us that the Seattle Kraken had six powerplay opportunities, but the Kraken was able to cash in just once as the defending champions are flexing their postseason muscles after a 6-4 game three win. The Avs lead the series 2-1 and are a -150 road favorite tonight.

Seattle who has won just 43 of the draws in this series has scored first in each of the three games but lost twice. Seattle was 32-7-3 in the regular season when scoring first. 74% of the money is on Colorado behind 59% of the total moneyline tickets.

That concludes our NHL playoff recap and preview, we wish you nothing but the best against the man tonight.
