Stars vs Kraken Odds: Even After Game 3 Meltdown, Dallas Favored to Tie Series

Questions Surrounding Miro Heiskanen Health as Stars Look to Even Series

Kraken Look for Command of Series With Game 4 at Home

The Seattle Kraken are figuring out this Stanley Cup Playoff thing pretty quickly.

After missing the playoffs in the inaugural season, Seattle moved two wins away from advancing to the Western Conference Final in Year No. 2 after a dominating win over Dallas in Game 3 on Sunday.

Five different players scored in the second period and perhaps even more impressive was that the Stars managed just 26 shots on goal in a tight-checking affair. Still, the Stars vs Kraken odds list Seattle as the underdog.

Things got a little testy in the final four minutes with eight misconduct penalties being handed out. Will that carry over into Game 4?

Seattle’s second-period flurry chased Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger after he stopped just 12 of the first 17 shots. Backup Scott Wedgewood wasn’t much better, allowing two goals on eight shots.

Seattle’s 21 blocked shots and 18 takeaways played a role in the 7-2 win as the Kraken lead 2-1 in the series even though 40-goal scorer Jared McCann has not played since being injured in the Colorado series. McCann has been skating without the no-contact jersey this week so perhaps he could be nearing a return to the ice.

Seattle is already without forwards Andre Burakovsky, Joonas Donskoi, and John Hayden.

Dallas defenseman Miro Heiskanen left Game 3 due to an upper-body injury and is questionable for Game 4. He averaged nearly 32 minutes of ice time, the most on the Stars in the first two games.

Dallas saw its odds to win the Stanley Cup move from +550 to +1000 after the Game 3 loss. Seattle’s odds went from +1400 to +1000.

The Stars’ price to win the series went from -225 to even after the Game 3 win with Seattle now at -120 in the series odds.

Dallas has +250 odds to win the series in seven games. Seattle comes in at +325 to take the series in six games.

Robertson Must Get Going

After scoring 46 goals during the regular season and having points in each of the final three games in the series against Central Division rival Minnesota, Jason Robertson’s impact in the playoffs has been minimal.

Robertson has seven shots, no goals, no assists, and a -1 plus/minus rating in the first three games. Robertson never went more than two games without a point during the regular season. He is too good of a player to continue to be held scoreless.

Dallas is just 1 of 8 on the power play and that hasn’t helped. The Stars scored four times on nine power plays against Seattle during the regular season. Even with the postseason struggles on the power play, Dallas is favored according to the Stars vs Kraken odds.

Tolvanen Chipping In

If Seattle wins the Stanley Cup, the Nashville Predators figure to get at least one Christmas card from the Kraken.

Nashville let winger Eeli Tolvanen go after he had two goals and two assists in 13 games.

Seattle was happy to add another forward to the roster.

The Kraken are 3-1 in the playoffs when Tolvanen has at least one point after posting a 3-0 mark in the regular season when he came through with a multi-point effort.

Tolvanen also brings a physical presence as he is second among Seattle’s forwards with 36 hits in the playoffs with nine of them coming in the first three games of this series. Tolvanen and his teammates are the underdogs according to the Stars vs Kraken odds.

Tolvanen, Matty Beniers, and Alex Wennberg each had a goal and an assist in the Game 3 victory and they combined for seven shots as well.

Handicapping the Series

Obviously, the status of Dallas’ first-pair defenseman Heiskanen will be a key aspect of Game 4. The power play hasn’t been great with him on the ice, but he could suffer even more if he can’t go in this game. His absence could have an impact when looking at the NHL betting lines.

After the teams combined for just 51 shots on goal in Game 3, don’t be surprised to see things open up a little bit in Tuesday’s matchup.

Dallas has won four of the last six games against Seattle. The Stars have won two of the four games at Climate Pledge Arena since the Kraken entered the league last season.

Dallas is 41-24-10 as a favorite this season while Seattle has a 23-28-4 record as the underdog. The Stars have covered 28 of the 45 road games this season with Seattle 24-21 against the spread on home ice.

When looking at the NHL standings, Dallas was fifth among Western Conference teams with 25 road wins during the regular season.

Dallas is priced at -140 to come out on top in Game 4 and even up the second-round series before the teams head back to Dallas.
