Nerazzurri Head to Naples

Defending Champions Host Current Leaders

Napoli won the 2022-23 Serie A title, but the defending champions are already eight points behind leaders Inter Milan. On Sunday, Inter Milan head on the road to Naples for an important match vs. the Partenopei. While Napoli lost 4-2 to Real Madrid on Wednesday, Inter got a 3-3 draw at Benfica. Inter have booked their place in the Champions League round of 16, but Napoli still have all to play for vs. Braga in a few weeks. As these two giants meet in Serie A, we’ll preview the Napoli vs Inter Milan Head to Head odds.

NAP Napoli vs. Inter Milan INT

Location: Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Naples, Italy
Date & Time: Sunday, December 3rd, 2:45 p.m. EST

Head-to-Head:

In May, Napoli got their first Serie A win over Inter Milan since 2019. In the reverse fixture, Inter Milan picked up a 1-0 win, and the Nerazzurri have been a better recent pick for soccer betting vs. Napoli. Inter Milan have lost just one of their last eight matches vs. Napoli in Serie A play. Both teams have scored in four of the previous five Napoli vs. Inter Milan head-to-head matchups.

Napoli Looking to Bounce Back From Midweek Loss

Napoli had an important Champions League match at Real Madrid on Wednesday. The Partenopei just needed a draw to clinch a spot in the round of 16 but fell 3-2. Napoli’s Giovanni Simeone opened up the scoring in the ninth minute, but Rodrygo quickly struck back for Real. Hosts Real took the lead again in the 22nd minute through a Jude Bellingham header, but Andre Zambo Anguissa equalized for Napoli in the 47th minute.

A goalkeeping error from Alex Meret allowed Real to score their third and the match finished 4-2 in favor of Los Blancos. Napoli can still automatically qualify for the round of 16 with a draw or win vs. Braga. Last weekend in Serie A, Napoli defeated Atalanta 2-1 in Walter Mazzari’s first match as head coach. Victor Osimhen returned from injury to set up Eljif Elmas’s winner, and Napoli remained in fourth place in the Serie A standing table.

The defending champions haven’t yet hit their stride, but the duo of Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is now healthy. Mazzari will have to get creative with his backline on Sunday as left backs Mario Rui and Mathias Olivera are both out. On Wednesday, he went with center back Juan Jesus as a left back, with Natan and Amir Rrahmani in the middle.

Inter Complete Unlikely Comeback

Inter Milan fought back from 3-0 down on Wednesday at Benfica to snag a 3-3 draw. With a round-of-16 berth already clinched, Simone Inzaghi decided to rest some of his best players ahead of the Napoli match. All of Yann Sommer, Nicolo Barella, Marcus Thuram, Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu started on the bench. Benfica’s Joao Mario scored a first half hat-trick and the Nerazzurri finally got on the board in the 51st minute as Marko Arnautovic finished off a rebound.

Davide Frattesi scored Inter’s second on a well-taken strike seven minutes later. Inter drew level with just under 20 minutes to play as Alexis Sanchez converted a penalty. Inter will win the group by defeating Real Sociedad on the final group stage matchday. Inter had another difficult match last weekend, as they drew 1-1 at Juventus. Martinez scored his Serie A-leading 13th goal for Inter Milan’s equalizer.

Nerazzurri players continue to dominate the Serie A stats. While Martinez leads the league in goals, Thuram is first with six assists, and no player has kept more shutouts than Sommer. While Juan Cuadrado recently returned from injury, three Inter defenders are out injured. Inzaghi won’t be able to select any of Denzel Dumfries, Alessandro Bastoni or Benjamin Pavard on Sunday.
