Djokovic, Swiatek Look To Remain On Top Of the Tennis World

Will It Be More Dominance For Novak Djokovic When Looking Ahead to Tennis in 2024?

Former World No. 1 Ranked Players Nadal and Osaka Are Returning to the Court

It was quite the 2023 tennis season with Novak Djokovic nearly sweeping the four Grand Slam titles on the men’s side and four different players capturing the women’s Grand Slam singles titles. It will be some of the familiar names having the best odds to emerge victorious on the biggest stage when it comes to tennis in 2024.

The mixed-gender United Cup is about to get underway and it will extend into the early part of 2024 before the attention turns to the preparation for the Australian Open.

The top five players in the ATP rankings are Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Jannik Sinner, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula are the top five tennis players.

Djokovic is currently at even odds to be the No. 1 ranked ATP player on Dec. 31, 2024. He is followed by Alcaraz (+135), Sinner (+600), and Medvedev (+850). Djokovic (+350) and Alcaraz (+650) have the best odds to win at least three Grand Slam singles titles as he looks to add to his record for the most tennis Grand Slam titles on the men’s side.

Swiatek and Sabalenka come in at +225 and +400 to win at least two Grand Slam singles titles followed by Coco Gauff and Elena Rybakina at +900 according to the tennis betting odds.

Djokovic Looks To Add to His Record Total

Novak Djokovic will finish 2023 with a men’s tennis record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles after winning the Australian Open, the French Open, and the U.S. Open.

Djokovic has won a record 10 Australian Open titles.

In 2016, he held all four Grand Slam titles at the same time after winning the French Open and he will be favored to add to that number when looking ahead to tennis in 2024.

Can Swiatek Return to Dominance?

Swiatek set such a high standard in 2022 when she won the French Open and US Open titles while advancing to the semifinals at the Australian Open.

It was more of a grind in 2023. She did win the French Open for the third time in the last four years. Swiatek fell in the Wimbledon quarterfinals and has yet to win that title. She also lost in the fourth round at both the Australian Open and US Open.

There are more challengers than ever ready to keep Swiatek from claiming multiple Grand Slam titles when it comes to tennis in 2024.

The Return of Rafa

What should tennis fans expect from Rafael Nadal, a 22-time Grand Slam singles champion when he returns to the men’s tour?

He won just one ATP tour match in 2023, but is on track to return to the tour after being slowed by injury the last couple of years.

Naturally, if he can get through the Australian Open without any setbacks, he will be looked at as one of the contenders in the French Open since he won the title 14 times.

He is not the only former No. 1 ranked player set to return in January.
Naomi Osaka won the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021 as well as the US Open in 2018 and 2020. However, she left the tour to tend to her mental health and the birth of her first child in 2023 extended her hiatus from the WTA tour.

Osaka announced her intention to play in not only the Australian Open but also the tune-up event in Brisbane.

Former No. 1 ranked Caroline Wozniacki returned to tour in 2023 so her progress is also worth watching.

It could be a longer wait for former No. 1 ranked Simona Halep to come back as she is currently suspended for testing positive for a banned substance.

Who’s Got Next?

With Alcaraz and Holger Rune both 20 years old, who is the next teenager to keep an eye on?

On the men’s side, Arthur Fils is currently ranked 36th. No. 90 Luca Van Assche and No. 97 Alex Michelsen are worth keeping an eye on.

Reigning women’s US Open champion Coco Gauff won’t turn 20 until March 13 so there is a chance that she can claim another Grand Slam title as a teen.

No. 41 Linda Noskova, No. 47 Mirra Andreeva (who is just 16), No. 82 Ashlyn Kreuger, No. 92 Linda Fruhvirtova, and No. 93 Diana Shnaider are other teens ranked in the top 100 on the WTA tour.

A Look At the Australian Open Outrights

Djokovic (-110) is the favorite to repeat as the Australian Open men’s champion. He is followed by Alcaraz (+300), Sinner (+600), and Medvedev (+800). Taylor Fritz (+6600) has the best tennis odds among the American players.

In the women’s field, Swiatek (+275) is the favorite even though she has never advanced past the semifinals in Melbourne.

Sabalenka (+450), Rybakina (+650) and Gauff (+900) are other top contenders.

A Look at the French Open Outrights

Swiatek is at even odds to add to her collection of French Open titles.
Sabalenka (+700), Rybakina (+1000), Gauff (+1000), Karolina Muchova (+1200), Mirra Andreeva (+1400) and Barbora Krejcikova (+1800) could be the top challengers for Swiatek.

Alcaraz leads the French Open men’s outrights at +150 with Djokovic not far behind at +225.

Nadal makes an appearance at +400 while Rune (+800), Medvedev (+1000), Sinner (+1000), Tsitsipas (+1000), and Casper Ruud (+1200) are others to keep an eye on.

Sebastian Korda leads the American contingent at (+8000)

A Look at the Wimbledon Outrights

Swiatek is the player to beat when it comes to the Wimbledon women’s singles outrights. She comes in at +275 with Sabalenka (+450) and Rybakina (+550) having a chance to close the gap with strong starts to tennis in 2024 season.

Ons Jabeur (+1000), Gauff (+1400), Pegula (+1400), Vondrousova (+1400) and Andreeva (+1600) can’t be overlooked.

It is almost a tennis dead heat on the men’s side with Alcaraz (+150) just ahead of Djokovic (+175) as the tennis fans would be the real winners if they put on a show like they did in the 2023 Wimbledon final.

Sinner (+1000) and Medvedev (+1200) are the closest challengers with Fritz (+3300) leading the way among the U.S. players.

A Look at the US Open Outrights

Djokovic (+125) and Alcaraz (+160) lead the men’s contenders with Medvedev (+700) and Sinner (+1000) topping the next wave of title contenders.

Fritz (+3300), Ben Shelton (+4000), Frances Tiafoe (+5000), and Korda (+5000) are among the U.S. challengers to monitor.

Things are pretty crowded at the top in the women’s outrights with Swiatek (+300), Sabalenka (+400), Gauff (+600), and Rybakina (+600) leading the way followed by Pegula (+1200), and Andreeva (+1400).
