Chargers vs Browns Highlights
No one could complain about the offensive output of the Chargers in the 2021 season. Justin Herbert delivered in most situations and was able to consistently rack up points. Their issues came on the defensive side of the ball, which was abysmal in stretches and gave up 360 yards per game and 27 points a game across the season. They have tried to address this with the signing of Khalil Mack and JC Jackson, and if they can improve the D then the Chargers will be in far more games this year.
Cleveland is a team hoping to just get through the first part of the year. The new addition of QB Deshaun Watson has been banned by the league for the first 11 games of the season, and so passing duties will be taken on by Jacoby Brissett in the meantime. They lost wideout Jarvis Landry in free agency but added Amari Cooper in his place. It remains to be seen whether Brissett can keep them relevant until Watson returns in NFL week 12.
The Chargers won last year’s matchup 47-42 in what was a classic back-and-forth game in LA, but that was when the Charger’s D was like a sieve, and the Browns had a healthy Baker Mayfield under center. Both those things have changed, and so this week should be less of a high-scoring affair. If you bet on NFL games, favor a moderate-scoring game with the Chargers repeating the win from October last year.
