High-Speed Action: 2023 Italian GP Monza
Need for Speed and Thrills

I watched Monza and I said being a Ferrari driver in Monza must be the best feeling ever… – Carlos Sainz
Many believe the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza Circuit is the premier event on the F1 schedule. You will be able to see for yourself as the racers start their high-performance engines on Saturday, September 3rd. Let’s talk about the latest F1 news and what makes this race better than all the rest.
The Temple of Speed
Everything about Monza is magnificent. Even the poster this year is nails, with Charles Leclerc’s No. 16 Ferrari dead nuts center with Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen flanking him on either side in their mean machines. And let’s not forget, the 2023 Italian GP Monza is a three-day party that can’t be matched anywhere on the F1 Circuit.

Okay, so maybe Monaco is more chi-chi, but the Italian Grand Prix is the oldest event on the circuit and has been a fixture at Monza since 1922, except for one year, 1980, in which it was moved to another venue. World War 2 would interrupt it as well, but this will be the 93rd running at Monza, and it remains a 53-lap race over a 3.6-mile course.
But if you’ve got a need for speed, then you have to watch the boys go at it at Monza because over three-quarters of the course can be driven at top speed, and the straightaways will see cars screaming at nearly 220 miles per hour. Don’t blink because this one doesn’t take long, as the record was set in 2003 when Michael Schumacher traversed all 53 laps in just 1:14:19.
Last year, Charles Leclerc had pole position, but Max Verstappen said that doesn’t mean anything, and rolled to his 11th win of the season. Speaking of Mad Max, he and his Red Bull team are making a joke out of the F1 series this year, absolutely crushing it at each and every race.

Why should this one be any different? It’s more like a coronation than a competition, but this s**t is off the chain, so I’m watching it even though I’m pretty sure I know the ending.
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the 2023 Italian GP Monza ain’t for pussies as scores of drivers have been killed there throughout the decades and even a few dozen spectators in two particularly atrocious incidents in 1928 and 1961. The last driver fatality was Marco Burnelli in 1999; since then, there have been plenty of wipeouts, but no one’s gotten buried.
The track is not only perfectly suited for F1 racing but the entire venue is picturesque and made for mad partying. According to the most recent Formula 1 news and rumors floating around, 60,000 more tickets went on sale. My first thought upon reading that was – 60,000 MORE? How many did they sell before? But then again, the more the merrier, so let’s part-aaay.

Drivers Dig the 2023 Italian GP Monza, Too
Get on a plane and get your ass over to Monza if you want to make a memory. Hell, even the drivers love it. But if you’re a Ferrari driver, then Monza is a home game for you, as a sea of red washes over the grandstands. Check out what Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and his teammate, Carlos Sainz, had to say about the revered course (you can also read a little more about the course here.)
Sainz revealed how truly special Monza was to him when he said, “It’s a dream come true for any kid. I have watched F1 since I was a kid, I watched Ferrari, I watched Monza and I said being a Ferrari driver in Monza must be the best feeling ever.”
Leclerc also discussed how unique the track is when he said, “The special thing about Monza is when you get there, you feel so little grip because you’ve got a very low downforce setting. There is no grip at all and it is extremely fast in the straights.
“It’s a very strange feeling, because you always like new challenges as a driver and Monza is one of those challenges, where you need to adapt your driving just for this weekend and this makes it exciting.”
