2023 NFL Season Starting Commercials – Which Are Hot, Which Are Not
NFL Commercials Are Back on Your Screen

Football Season Is Back!
The worst part of watching an NFL game is the seemingly endless barrage of commercials amidst the NFL news. They are a necessary evil for all forms of media, but it helps when companies can at least get a bit creative with them.
Now that football is back, we got to see some of the big commercials companies have been working on to get ready for Sunday’s biggest events for the next four months. And of course, some are better than others.
Smash or Pass – This NFL Season’s Starting Commercials
The best commercials always seem to come from the networks. Oh, how I long for the days of the prime “This is Sportscenter” commercials that were almost always hilarious. FOX Sports is trying its hand at a humorous spin on behind-the-scenes parodies: their new commercial is centered around Greg Olsen and crew making puns around the word sack…

Look, I’m not the biggest fan of pun-related humor, but I could see why people would enjoy this commercial. The word sack is just funny, so it’s hard to go wrong there; we’ll give it a smash this time. I’m interested to see if FOX has more of those behind-the-scenes commercials geared up for the season.
According to entertainment news, the NFL is also trying to poke some fun at itself.
Last year, people started to question whether or not the NFL is scripted. While some people probably believe that, many just decided to have fun with it. The league put together a commercial starring the always-funny Keegan-Michael Key as he leads a table read of some of the NFL’s best players as they go through the new script.
As somebody who has been in a table read before, this commercial is actually pretty funny, and there are some good cameos from NFL stars.

Surprisingly, Kirk Cousins steals the show in a brief (and shirtless) appearance where he’s wearing an absurd amount of chains around his neck. We’ll give this one a smash.
Perhaps the standout commercial involved a bunch of aging NFL legends. Frito-Lay + Pepsi enlisted the likes of Emmitt Smith, Dan Marino, Jerry Rice, and Randy Moss in a commercial where they all fantasized about coming out of retirement. It’s just fun to see all these legends in uniform again, and we even get a Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski cameo. It’s hard to get more star-studded than this commercial.
While I don’t think the jokes land as hard as Frito-Lay + Pepsi would like, it’s a fun commercial that’s at least watchable, so we’ll give this one a smash.
OK, this leads me to my rant. If I have to hear that Burger King jingle one more time, I’m going to punch a hole through my TV. Who on God’s green Earth wants to hear that jingle again? We already had to deal with it last year, and those monsters at Burger King decided to bring it back. Any commercial featuring that jingle gets the ultimate pass.
We’ll give a dishonorable mention to State Farm. I’m gonna be honest, I hate these commercials so fucking much, and the newest one with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid isn’t any better. This one also gets a big fat pass.
