Hamilton Lewis and George Russell Extend Mercedes Contracts

Mercedes Drivers Extend Contracts; F1 Future Secured

Hamilton’s Pay Raise and Russell’s Rising Star

Taking my first pole position and race win last year was an unforgettable feeling… – George Rusell

In breaking F1 news, Mercedes announced Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will keep on humming along for its F1 team until 2025. Let’s check out the details below.

Lewis Hamilton wrote on Instagram: “Our story isn’t finished.” And for a two-year commitment to Mercedes, the seven-time Formula 1 champion will be chasing after Max Verstappen and the Red Bull team through the 2025 season. According to F1 news and rumors, Hamilton was seeking a five-year deal, but Mercedes would not budge.

Instead, all Hamilton got was a pay raise of £10 million ($1 265 million) per season for a whopping £50 million per year over the next two. Hamilton will be 40 by the time his contract is up, and I sit here wondering, what will he do once those massive checks stop? Perhaps he’ll downsize to a castle.

Anyway, for those Americans following along, that equates to roughly $63 million per year, so it’s safe to say the beers are on Lewis. As for his teammate, George Russell, apparently, he had struck a deal with the Mercedes team about two weeks ago but had kept it hush-hush.

What Are the Boys Saying?

Naturally, as Mercedes drivers extend contracts, Mercedes is ecstatic they can keep a legend on their team and a star in the making with the 25-year-old Russell. The Mercedes team is currently a distant second to the Red Bull juggernaut, while Hamilton is fourth and Russell is seventh in the driver standings.

“We dream every day of being the best and we have dedicated the past decade together to achieving that goal,” Hamilton said as the Mercedes drivers extend contracts and the company announce the extension ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.

“Being at the top does not happen overnight or over a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work, and dedication and it’s been an honor to earn our way into the history books with this incredible team,” added Hamilton.

As for George Russell, his profile has elevated quickly, and he was overjoyed about his commitment to Mercedes and theirs to him, according to the latest F1 news.

“I have grown up with this team ever since joining as part of the junior program back in 2017. It’s my home and it feels fantastic to extend our special relationship through 2025,” Russell said.

“After stepping up to the Mercedes race seat last year, I wanted to reward the trust and belief that Toto and the rest of the team placed in me.

“Taking my first pole position and race win last year was an unforgettable feeling. More importantly, though, it’s been great to work with everybody at Brackley and Brixworth to make progress with our car and push forward our development. Their loyalty, vision, and hard work is inspiring.

“We have made some significant steps over the last 18 months and are only getting stronger as a team. I’m excited to help continue to build on that momentum as we progress into 2024 and 2025 as we continue to focus on returning to the very front of the pack.”
