Cadiz FC Stats &History
Cadiz CF played their first-ever match in 1910 vs. Cadiz Sporting Club and won 1-0. In their early years, Cadiz only played friendly matches. So, the first professional season in the Cadiz FC stats is recorded as 1935-36. They started out in the second division of Spanish soccer.
They had a brief spell in the fourth division but mostly played in the second and third tiers during the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Cadiz first reached La Liga in 1977 but were relegated after just one season. Three years later, Cadiz returned to the top flight but a 16th place finish meant another relegation.
On their first promotion attempt, Cadiz returned to La Liga for the third time in club history. Again, they yo-yoed back and forth between La Liga and the Segunda Division. With a 15th place La Liga finish in 1985-86, Cadiz stayed in La Liga for the first time in club history.
In fact, they lasted seven seasons in the top flight this time around. The club was nicknamed the “Yellow Submarine” in the late 80s and early 90s. This was because of their lackluster play in the first half of seasons but subsequent ability to stay afloat and defy the La Liga odds.
Led by Salvadoran midfielder/forward Jorge “Magico” Gonzalez, Cadiz finished a then-best 12th place in 1987-88. However, Cadiz were playing in the third tier by 1994. Financial issues threatened the future of the club but it was reorganized in 1995.

One of the most notable periods in the Cadiz CF stats is 2003-05. In 2003, they earned promotion to the second division after nine years in the third tier. Just two seasons later, Cadiz were back in La Liga after winning the Segunda Division.
Their stay lasted just one season as they spent time in the third division once again during the 2010s. Cadiz returned to La Liga in 2020-21 after 14 years away and managed to equal their best-ever finish of 12th. In 2021-22, despite struggling in the league, Cadiz made the Copa Del Rey quarterfinals for the third time in club history.
The 2022-23 season marks a third consecutive La Liga season for Cadiz. After finishing just one place above the relegation zone in 2021-2022, betting advice suggests Cadiz may be fighting off relegation in 2022-23.
