Coaching Change for Underwhelming Sevilla

In their last La Liga match before the October international break, Sevilla fell behind 2-0 at home vs Rayo Vallecano in the first half. Djibril Sow pulled one back in the second half and scored an incredible first goal for Los Nervionenses. Rayo Vallecano keeper Stole Dimitrievski could do nothing about Sow’s long-range strike. Sevilla kept knocking on the door and finally equalized with the last kick of the match.

Youssef En-Nesyri scored a header, as he so often does, and Sevilla rescued a point. However, the result led to the sacking of coach Jose Luis Mendilibar. Mendilibar took over in the middle of last season and guided Sevilla to their record seventh Europa League title. He leaves Sevilla with them in 14th place in the Spanish La Liga standings, with a 2-2-4 record. They’ve also drawn both of their matches to open up their Champions League campaign.

Now, former Uruguay coach Diego Alonso takes his first European coaching job and will hope to turn Sevilla’s fortunes around. Sevilla have been an underwhelming pick for soccer betting and are just 2-1-2 at home in La Liga. Defender Tanguy Nianzou could return here after an extended spell on the sidelines. Meanwhile, Marko Dmitrovic, Erik Lamela, and former Real Madrid forward Mariano are injured.

Real Madrid Hitting Their Stride

Real Madrid are one of the strongest La Liga teams year after year, and that’s been no exception this season. Los Blancos have gotten off to an 8-1 start in the league and are on top of the table heading into Matchday 10. Just before the international break, Real destroyed Osasuna 4-0, and it could have been more. Jude Bellingham continued his impressive start to his Real Madrid career with two more goals.

Vinicius Jr. scored and provided an assist, Fede Valverde assisted twice, and Joselu scored Real’s fourth. Joselu could have made it five, but he put his penalty straight at Osasuna’s keeper. Bellingham now has eight goals on the season, which is more than any other player in La Liga.

Rodrygo is also a joint-leader in La Liga, with 30 shots, but he’s only managed to score once so far this season. Notably, Real have kept three straight La Liga clean sheets and have outscored their opponents 9-0 during that time. They appear to be hitting their stride, and the rest of the league may be left playing catch up.

Match Analysis & Odds

Sevilla vs Real Madrid previews mention that Real have won on the road at Sevilla in each of the last four La Liga seasons. Here, Real are -110 favorites as Sevilla could get a “new coach bump”. With Sevilla’s players potentially eager to stake a claim in Diego Alonso’s rotation, there should be no lack of motivation from the hosts.

Currently, Sevilla are +310 underdogs and Sevilla pk, +0.5, comes in at +145. Bettors can take Real pk, -0.5 at -165 odds as they go for their fifth straight road win at Sevilla. Note that versatile Real player Nacho is out due to suspension, while Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, and Arda Guler are injured. A draw sits at +290, but these teams have only drawn once since 2005 in La Liga.

With how much Real have been scoring lately, bettors may consider taking a flier on over three goals at +125 odds. Still, only three of Real’s nine matches this season have gone over three. Under three goals are priced at -145 odds for Saturday’s match.
