Was the Russell Wilson Trade to the Broncos the Worst of All Time?
Let’s Set the Fails Straight From the Beginning

Broncos Country Let’s… 🤠
We pretty much already know the Russell Wilson trade was a disaster for the Denver Broncos and we figured it out pretty quickly. However, it doesn’t come close to doing justice to how bad it was. With the NFL news that the Broncos QB is getting cut, we need to detail just how bad this deal was for Denver.
It’s been part of NFL rumors for months that Wilson didn’t have a future with the Broncos but the $85 million dead money hit seemed too big for the team to realistically consider cutting him. Welp doesn’t give a crap. He wasn’t the one to trade for him and he has no interest in waiting around and trying to fix an obvious mistake.
We’ve notified QB Russell Wilson that he will be released after the league year begins March 13.

He wanted to rip off the bandaid and have a fresh start as and NFL quarterback. Wilson’s $85 million dead cap charge is the biggest in NFL history and more than double the previous highest. We also have to factor in the assets the Broncos had to give up to get Wilson.

Big Regret
The Broncos traded a 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, a 2022 fifth-round pick, a 2023 first-round pick, a 2023 second-round pick, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris and quarterback Drew Lock for Wilson.
That’s a ton of assets to give up for a football player who only lasted two years on the NFL team.

This Russell Wilson trade is legit one of the worst trades in NFL history and sports history. Off the top of our heads, the only trade we can think of that is worse was when the Minnesota Vikings traded three draft picks and four NFL players to the Dallas Cowboys for running back Herschel Walker in 1989.
That trade was completely mind-boggling and didn’t make sense when it happened. At least Wilson is a quarterback and was playing at a high level before going to Denver. There’s some logic in that deal.
Let’s Not Forget Russ’ Legacy
Regardless, this was an all-time blunder by the Broncos that will hang over them for years to come. Wilson is now set to test NFL free agency and will likely be very fired up to stick it to Denver. There’s talk of him taking a league minimum contract. Wilson on a cheap deal is much better than Wilson on a massive deal.

Russell Wilson’s career stats are still phenomenal. He’s thrown 334 touchdowns to just 106 interceptions. He should land on his feet with a team in free agency and if he plays well with his new team, it’ll only make this Russell Wilson trade and Bronco’s trade look worse.
