New York Mets Stats & Team History
The New York Mets were established in 1962 as an expansion team, as a replacement for two teams leaving New York City. Both the Giants and the Dodgers relocated to California in 1958, leaving New York with just one baseball team. The Mets filled the void, taking the blue from the Dodgers and the orange from the Giants to make their color scheme. The Mets’ first season saw one of the worst seasons in MLB history, 40-120. The Mets’ team stats improved, having their first winning season in 1969, winning the World Series. That World Series team is nicknamed the “Miracle Mets” after beating a great Baltimore Orioles team, despite the Mets having won 100 games that year.
The New York Mets team stats show them appearing in five World Series, winning two. The team has only made the playoffs nine times, making back-to-back runs only twice. Under new ownership from billionaire Steve Cohen, the team looks towards a brighter future.
