DFB-Pokal: Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig H2H Preview & Odds

Second Round Showdown

Leipzig Coming Off Big Win

RB Leipzig have gotten off to an excellent start this season. They’ve won two of their first three Champions League matches and have outscored their opponents by two goals per game in the Bundesliga. On Tuesday, the two-time defending DFB-Pokal champions will head on the road to Wolfsburg for a second-round German Cup matchup on Tuesday. We’ll cover the latest odds and team news in our Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig H2H preview.

Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig

Day/Time: Location: Volkswagen Arena, Wolfsburg, Germany

Head-to-Head:

Recent Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig H2H matchups have been dominated by Leipzig. They’ve won the last three meetings and kept clean sheets in each of those matches. Plus, Leipzig has only lost one of the last 12, in all competitions. That includes victories in the 2020-21 DFB-Pokal quarterfinal and the 2018-19 DFB-Pokal round of 16.

Wolfsburg Defending Poorly

Wolfsburg took on FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Hosts Augsburg opened up the scoring through Phillip Tietz. Wolfsburg responded as Jonas Wind finished off a scramble in the box to equalize in the 35th minute. Die Wolfe won a penalty just before the half and Lovro Majer converted to give Wolfsburg a 2-1 lead.

Augsburg was persistent and managed to grab a late equalizer and winner. Wolfsburg fell to 4-5 on the season, as a result, and has been a poor pick for soccer betting in recent weeks. They’ve lost their last three matches in the Bundesliga and have conceded eight goals in the process. Wolfsburg’s home form has provided a stark contrast to their road form, though. In the Bundesliga, they’re currently 3-1 at the Volkswagen Arena and 1-4 away.

However, Die Wolfe did manage to pick up a dominant 6-0 win over fifth-tier club Makkabi in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Lukas Nmecha opened up the scoring in that match but he’s set to be out until January with an injury. Die Wolfe has relied heavily on Wind, a Danish international, for scoring this season. He’s scored eight times in the Bundesliga and is the only Wolfsburg player with more than one goal in that competition. Tiago Tomas did manage to score twice in the DFB-Pokal match, though.

RB Leipzig Explosive on Offense

RB Leipzig destroyed FC Koln 6-0 on Saturday and led 4-0 by the halftime whistle. Lois Openda scored a first-half brace and is Leipzig’s leading scorer in the Bundesliga, with eight goals to his name. Xavi Simons was also superb and provided an assist on a silver platter for the Belgian striker. FC Koln looked like a team that could be destined for the relegation playoff in the Bundesliga but the result was still an excellent one for Leipzig.

Leipzig have now won their last three matches, in all competitions. Last week, in the Champions League, RB defeated Red Star Belgrade, 3-1. Left wing-back David Raum got on the scoresheet in that match and was also on target vs. Koln. Concerningly, Dani Olmo is now set for another spell on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder on Saturday. He joins Willi Orban and El Chadaille Bitshiabu on the injured list.

RB Leipzig’s title defense in the DFB-Pokal kicked off at 2. Bundesliga club Wehen Wiesbaden. Benjamin Sesko scored twice in Leipzig’s 3-2 win. In their last three matches, Leipzig have averaged four goals per game and they pose a huge threat to opposing defenses.

Match Analysis & Odds

For Tuesday’s match, the DFB-Pokal odds currently price visitors RB Leipzig as -105 ATS and money line favorites. RB Leipzig has outscored Wolfsburg 7-0 in the last three Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig H2H matchups. Wolfsburg +0.5 comes in at -115 odds, while Die Wolfe are +245 home underdogs.

Wolfsburg have gotten on the scoresheet in all of their home matches this season, while Leipzig have scored in every road match they’ve played. Over 2.5, 3 goals show -125 odds for this one as Leipzig has been firing on all cylinders in recent weeks.

A draw is also priced at +260 odds here and the match would go into extra time if tied after 90 minutes. Both teams are playing on short rest, which means we should see squad rotation from both managers. Leipzig certainly has the deeper squad and they’ve made the final in each of the last three seasons.
