CFL Week 8 Odds Preview: Alive in the Atlantic!

CFL Returns to Halifax Led by the Undefeated Argonauts

East Teams Mainly Favored by Oddsmakers

The Toronto Argonauts will be this weekend’s biggest favorites per the CFL Week 8 odds. The bookmakers have placed a 10.5-point spread for the only unbeaten team as it rematches Saskatchewan in the league’s annual Touchdown Atlantic. The Argos lead its division rivals, Ottawa, and Montreal as they are also favored on the sportsbook.

CFL Week 7 Review: Road Teams Deliver on the Spread

It was another week for the Ottawa Redblacks. They stole the show again as Dustin Crum led another victory in overtime. Ottawa won a second straight game as underdogs and have now won three of its last four games. The Redblacks were just one of three visitors that covered their spreads.

Toronto and Edmonton (yes, that Edmonton) also won their spread bettors money. The Argonauts handled business against Hamilton as it easily covered the 7.5-point spread with a 31-15 win. Edmonton, on the other hand, just covered against Winnipeg. The Elks were 14.5-point underdogs and lost 28-14. It’s a bad beat for the Bombers bettors while bold Edmonton backers actually made some coin.

The Elks remain dead-last in the CFL standings but covered two of its last three games. It was also another game that went under their total, which is five of seven. Speaking of the total, three of the four games went the same way. The shootout between Ottawa and Calgary, which totalled 84 points, was the only one that went over.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-4) vs Ottawa Redblacks (3-3)

Date, time:
Location: TD Place Stadium, Ottawa

Ottawa looks to continue its momentum as the oddsmakers lay 3.5 in favor of the home team. The Redblacks have won just three of its last 22 home games. On top of that, the Tiger-Cats have won five straight against Ottawa. Could this be the letdown game for the Redblacks? Either way, the total of 48.5 is the highest this week and it may be another fireworks-laden CFL score.

Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-3) vs Toronto Argonauts (5-0)

Date, time:
Location: Huskies Stadium, Halifax (Neutral)

As Toronto keeps winning, expectations keep rising. The CFL Week 8 odds now have a 10.5-point margin between the defending Grey Cup champions and the Roughriders. Saskatchewan will continue with Mason Fine as quarterback with Trevor Harris’s injury. The total is set at 47.5 and five of these teams’ last six games, including last year in Halifax, have gone over.

BC Lions (5-1) vs Edmonton Elks (0-7)

Date, time:
Location: The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton

The Elks will go down as one of the worst CFL teams ever. And now it’s expected to extend its home losing streak to 21 games. But at the least, Edmonton can cover its eight-point spread, right? Well, the team is just 1-11 against the spread (ATS) in its last dozen home games. It has also lost five straight games to the Lions on both the moneyline and spread. Yikes.

Calgary Stampeders (2-4) vs Montreal Alouettes (2-3)

Date, time:
Location: Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal

Montreal returns from its bye looking to make life harder for the reeling Stampeders. Dave Dickenson’s crew has lost three games by three points or fewer, hence the +2.5 points it gets on its CFL Week 8 odds. But the Alouettes have typically done well against the Stampeders having covered 11 of its last 13 games against them.
