2023 Oscars Betting Odds Preview: Everything Everywhere Once Again?

Absurdist Darling Leads Nominations and Several Betting Markets

Academy Award Odds Favor Parity Despite Said Film

Can Everything Everywhere All At Once win everything to cap off the awards season? The beloved science fiction comedy film leads with 11 nominations. It looks to strike it rich in the most prestigious awards ceremony this March 12.

The film is favored on the 2023 Oscars betting odds in more than a few categories. What is its best bet to win?

95th Academy Awards

Date & Time:
Location: Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, California
Host: Jimmy Kimmel
Streaming: ABC

Everything Everywhere Favored to Win a Handful But…

Most of the major awards are close to still being a toss-up. Everything Everywhere All At Once is favored to win Best Picture (-190), Best Director (-165), and Best Film Editing (-160). Ke Huy Quan is also the second-largest favorite of the evening as he is poised to win Best Supporting Actor (-1500) as he has been doing in every other major awards ceremony.

But given the others’ betting lines, the implied probability is no higher than 65.5 percent per the 2023 Oscars betting odds. That leaves plenty of room for some upsets. After all, the film has not exactly dominated in other awards. It won two of its six nominations at the Golden Globes and five of 14 at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

Many pundits who know how to bet on the Oscars will look to the underdogs beside Everything Everywhere All At Once and toss a buck or two at them. Steven Spielberg (+100) as an underdog for The Fabelmansis one potential “upset” in the making. He is a two-time winner and just won the same award at the Golden Globes.

The Best Picture category could also produce an upset as Everything Everywhere All At Once did not win it at the Golden Globes. Instead, the two Best Picture winners, Banshees of Inisherin (+200) andThe Fabelmans (+800) could edge it out.

Turning the Tables…

But Everything Everywhere All At Once could produce some upsets of its own. Michelle Yeoh (Ev) is in a close race with Cate Blanchett (-170) to win the Best Actress award. Blanchett and Yeoh both won at the Golden Globes. It was the latter who captured the award at the Critics’ Choice Awards. for her performance inTar, as the titular character.

With Best Original Screenplay, it is also neck-and-neck between the film and The Banshees of Inisherin(-160). There is a chance of an upset.

Other Nominees That Could Make Noise

What is a 2023 Oscars betting odds preview without a section for the dark horses? These awards shows, despite being 95 percent predictable, still leave room for an upset or two. If we were to take the current entertainment betting odds literally, Brendan Fraser (-150) is the favorite to win Best Actor.

This is an upset depending on how you define it outside of a betting perspective.

Fraser gained widespread acclaim for his performance in the film which won him a Critics’ Choice Award. However, he also did lose to Austin Butler in Elvis (+250) and Colin Farrell (+200) has just been as influential if not more. Either way, we can consider this category a three-way race so do not be too shocked if Butler or Farrell win.

Another acting award could produce a stunning upset. While Angela Bassett (-300) is a heavy favorite to win Best Supporting Actress, the Academy is notorious for snubbing superhero films. She won both the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards but the likes of Kerry Condon (+250) and Jamie Lee Curtis (+850) could just swipe the award.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling could also go to Elvis (+185). The Whale (-150) is favored but the Academy may just snub the film altogether. Elvis already won a similar category at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Other Picture Awards Are All But Decided

Several other awards such as Best Animated Feature and Best International Featured Film are already lined like the winners are a foregone conclusion. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio (-1000) has a 90.9 percent winning probability. The filmmaker is an Academy darling so it’s hard to see any of the others usurping the award.

All Quiet on the Western Front (-4000) is the largest favorite of the evening. The anti-war film is based on the 1929 novel that already produced an Academy Award winner many years ago. The Academy not only loves movies based on World Wars but the film also has nine nominations including Best Picture (+2000).
