Odds Show Race to Final Table, Muddled

Five players are the odds-on favorite to win the main events at the 2023 World Series of Poker. Michael “SirWatts” Watson, Steve “Mango” O’Dwyer, Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, Justin “Zee Justin” Bonomo, and Phil Ivey are all +6000. Watson owns one World Poker Tour title in 2008. His highest ranking in the Global poker index was #2 in 2013. Currently, the Newfoundland native is ranked 7th, one of only two players in the top 10 that is not American. O’Dwyer, the 39th-ranked player, has yet to win a WSOP bracelet but has two European Poker Tour wins to his credit. The 41-year-old has made it to one final WSOP final table. Negreanu is one of the most recognizable names in the game.

The Canadian is now a Las Vegas resident, who owns six WSOP bracelets to his credit with 45 final tables in his career and has never finished lower than 11th (2001, 2015) in the main event. The 48-year-old is ranked 49th in the world. Ivey’s name is right up there with “Kid Poker”. The “Tiger Woods of Poker” has 10 WSOP bracelets and has participated in 31 final tables. His highest finish in the event was in 2009 when Ivey was 7th overall. The Las Vegas resident won three bracelets in 2002, an accomplishment only five other players have achieved. 37-year-old Bonomo has won three bracelets with a 64th-place finish, the highest in his career. As of July 2022, Bonomo has won $57,283,047, the most live tournament earnings of all time.

Second Tier of Favorites Includes Helmuth, Barbero +10000

It would make massive poker news if anyone outside the top 15 favorites were to win the final table, so we’re focused on a few long shots inside that top 15 that could produce an incredible payoff at +8000. Phil “The Poker Brat” Hellmuth has won 16 bracelets at the WSOP and has made 64 final tables. He made his name in 1989 when he won the event at the age of 24 over Johnny Chan. The 141st-ranked player was the youngest to win the main event in 1989. Jose “Nacho” Ignacio Barbero is +1000 but is the top-ranked player according to the Global Poker Index. The 41-year-old Argentinian is a recent addition to America’s Cardroom Team. He has won one bracelet all-time with his best finish coming in 2008 (89th). That does it for our look at the top players in the 2023 World Series of Poker Tournament. All the best with your wagers all the way through to the final table.
