They last met in the fourth round of the 2023 FA Cup as a late Kaoru Mitoma goal handed Brighton a 2-1 win. In the EPL last season, former Brighton player Leandro Trossard scored a hat trick at Anfield in a 3-3 draw. The Seagulls also picked up a 3-0 win at the AMEX Stadium, but Liverpool finished one place ahead of Brighton in the EPL table. Brighton Hitting Roadblocks

Aston Villa handed Brighton a beating last Saturday and put six on the Seagulls. It was the most goals Brighton have ever conceded in the Premier League, and the 6-1 loss matches their worst EPL defeat. The only silver lining from the match was the fact that Ansu Fati managed to score his first Brighton goal in the match. With the loss, Brighton’s Premier League record is now 5-2, and they’re in sixth in the EPL standings.

Last Wednesday, Brighton also lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the EFL Cup. After Thursday’s 2-2 draw at Marseille in the Europa League, the Seagulls have won just one of their last five games in all competitions. Brighton fell behind 2-0 in the first half at Marseille, and the second goal came from captain Lewis Dunk’s mistake. The Seagulls didn’t give up, though, and Pascal Gross got a goal back in the second half. With just minutes to play, Tariq Lamptey won a penalty for Brighton, and Joao Pedro stepped up and converted. The draw marked Brighton’s first-ever point in European football.

Now, the Brighton vs Liverpool betting odds price the Seagulls as +195 home underdogs even though they’ve played well vs. the Reds in recent seasons. Bettors can expect Julio Enciso, James Milner, and Jakub Moder to be out for Brighton in this one.

VAR Sinks Liverpool

VAR has become Liverpool’s worst enemy after a highly controversial 2-1 defeat at Tottenham last Saturday. First, Simon Hooper sent Curtis Jones off for a straight red card on a challenge that looked horrendous in slow motion but defendable in real-time. Jones’ foot slipped on the ball, and he caught Yves Bissouma with his studs. Jones will now miss Liverpool’s next three EPL games.

Then, Luis Diaz had his 34th-minute goal incorrectly overturned by VAR, which later prompted an apology from the PGMOL. Son Heung-min scored not long after to give Spurs the lead, while Cody Gakpo equalized before halftime. Liverpool substitute Diogo Jota also got sent off in the second half, with two yellows in quick succession. Spurs scored a stoppage-time winner on a cross that Liverpool defender Joel Matip sent into his own net.

Following Saturday’s frenzy, Liverpool defeated Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0 in the Europa League on Thursday. The Reds’ Alexis Mac Allister shared the pitch with his brother Kevin for the majority of the second half. After a bad Darwin Nunez miss, Ryan Gravenberch scored his first goal for Liverpool. Jota also scored in the second half to seal the victory. Note that Jota is suspended for Sunday’s match while Gakpo and midfielder Thiago are injured.

Match Analysis & Odds

Brighton have lost two of their five home matches, in all competitions. Taking the over in both teams’ matches has been one of the best soccer bets today. All seven of Brighton’s EPL matches this season have finished with four goals or more. Meanwhile, six of Liverpool’s seven Premier League games have ended with three or more goals.

Here, the Brighton vs Liverpool betting odds list the hosts as+195 underdogs and the visiting Reds at +120. A draw also shows +290 odds for this one as three of the last Premier League meetings have finished all square. Brighton pk, +0.5 comes in at -105 odds, while Liverpool pk, -0.5 sits at -115.

Both over and under 3.5 goals show -110 odds in what could be a wide-open match. Both teams will try to impose their will on the game, which should lead to opportunities for both sides. After last week’s blowout loss, Brighton may be a little more conservative defensively, though.
