Tottenham Drop Two Straight

Few preseason English Premier League previews had Tottenham making the top four. Through the first ten matches of the season under new coach Ange Postecoglou, Spurs looked like title contenders. They were on top of the league table but they’ve dropped their last two games. In their first game of November, nine-man Tottenham fell 4-1 to Chelsea. In their next match, at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Spurs took an early lead.

Brennan Johnson scored his first Premier League goal for Tottenham as he finished off a Pedro Porro cross in the third minute. It looked like Spurs would grab all three points as they held the lead until the 91st minute.

Pablo Sarabia got Wolves on the board, and Mario Lemina scored a dramatic late winner for the hosts six minutes later. With the loss, Tottenham are now in fourth place in the league but are still just two points behind leaders Manchester City. Spurs will try to avoid a third straight defeat on Sunday, but they’ll have to make do without a bunch of first-team players.

Most prominently, attacking midfielder James Maddison is out with an ankle injury until January. Maddison has already provided five assists this season, and they’ll miss hiss creativity. Starting center back Cristian Romero and midfielder Yves Bissouma are also suspended for this one.

Tottenham will be without both of their starting center backs for this one as Micky van de Ven is also out injured. Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, and Ryan Sessegnon are also sidelined. Regardless, the Tottenham vs. Aston Villa betting odds price Spurs are +130 favorites.

Aston Villa Exceeding Expectations

Opta’s Supercomputer predicted Tottenham’s most likely finish this season as eighth place. Meanwhile, it had Aston Villa one spot behind, in ninth place, yet they’ve been an excellent pick for betting on soccer so far. Unai Emery’s Villa are in fifth place through 12 matches, with an 8-1-3 record. Only Manchester City have scored more goals than Villa so far this season, and Villa defeated Fulham 3-1 just before the international break.

John McGinn put in a man of the match performance as the captain got on the scoresheet and played a part in Villa’s third goal.

Ollie Watkins also got on the scoresheet, and he leads Villa this season with six goals and five assists. Watkins has broken into the England national team, and he’s an integral part of the front line along with Moussa Diaby.

Diaby joined from Bayer Leverkusen over the Summer and is Villa’s most dynamic player. He’s scored three goals and provided three assists in the Premier League thus far. In limited minutes, winger Leon Bailey has also been highly productive. Bettors can expect Diego Carlos, Jacob Ramsey, Tyrone Mings and and Emi Buendia to be out on Sunday.
