Round of 16: Brighton vs Roma UEL Odds

Brighton Have Mountain to Climb

Roma Resurgence Continues

Roma have picked up right where they left off in Europe under Daniel De Rossi. The Giallorossi hold a 4-0 lead over Brighton heading into Thursday’s Europa League Round of 16 second leg. Roma have qualified for two straight European finals and they’re eager to make another deep run here. Meanwhile, injury stricken Brighton has a mountain to climb and Roberto De Zerbi’s return to Italy last Thursday was a disastrous one. As the Seagulls try to overcome a four goal deficit, we’ll cover the Brighton vs Roma UEL odds.

Brighton vs Roma H2H:

Last week, Roma managed one of the most impressive Europa League scores of the season. In the round of 16 first leg, the Giallorossi dispatched Brighton 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico. Brighton on Long Home Unbeaten Run

Brighton responded to their 4-0 defeat at Roma last Thursday by grabbing a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday. It was the Seagulls’ first clean sheet in their last five games but they didn’t manage to create too much offensively. Brighton’s only goal came on an Andrew Omobamidele own goal. While Brighton nearly always dominates possession under Roberto De Zerbi, that doesn’t always translate to results.

The Seagulls have won just one of their last five games and are vulnerable to counter attacks. Still, they are unbeaten in their last 13 home matches, in all competitions, and haven’t lost at the AMEX since September. In a group with Ajax, Marseille, and AEK Athens, Brighton managed to finish in first place in the Group B Europa League table. They’re in an unenviable position heading into Thursday’s match but do have the capability to score goals in short order. In 2024 alone, Brighton have scored four or more goals on four occasions. Unfortunately, two of Brighton’s brightest attacking talents are out for this one.

Kaoru Mitoma, a skillful and speedy winger who ranks second on the team in assists, is out with a back injury. Joao Pedro, Brighton’s leading scorer this season, is also dealing with a hamstring issue. Meanwhile, Pascal Gross is available to play on Thursday and the German is joint-leader in the Premier League in assists. Simon Adingra and Ansu Fati could also cause problems on the wings.

Roma Rediscover Form

AS Roma have lost just one of the 11 matches Daniele De Rossi has been in charge of. They’ve also scored three or more goals on five occasions since the former Roma midfielder took over as their coach. On Sunday, the Giallorossi looked to be headed toward defeat at Fiorentina. Roma were 2-1 down and their own player, Andrea Belotti, who is on loan at Fiorentina, won a penalty. Mile Svilar saved the ensuing kick, which preserved some hope of an equalizer.

With one of the last kicks of the match, Diego Llorente sent in a brilliant volley to tie the match at two. The match finished level and Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar also got on the scoresheet in his first start since December. De Rossi is hoping to do what Jose Mourinho couldn’t and qualify for the Champions League.

Recall a Europa League title confers a place in next season’s UCL. Roma currently shows +1200 outright Europa League odds. Roma are also just three points outside of the Serie A top four at the moment. De Rossi is expected to rest talisman Paulo Dybala and striker Romelu Lukaku here, while a few players are injured. Expect Chris Smalling, Rasmus Nissen, Tammy Abraham, and Renato Sanches to miss this one.

Brighton vs Roma Analysis & Odds

Bettors should note that Roma have scored in every match since De Rossi took over. Here, the Brighton vs Roma UEL odds list Roma over 0.5 goals at a -250 price. With the news of Dybala and Lukaku likely taking a rest, the line has moved from Brighton -115 to Brighton -135. Even if the Seagulls win, it won’t mean much unless they’re able to defeat the Giallorossi by a four-goal margin.

Roma just needs to make sure things don’t get out of hand to qualify for a place in the Quarter-Final. They’re currently +325 underdogs and Roma +0.5 comes in at +105 odds. Even without Dybala and Lukaku, players like Aouar and Sardar Azmoun will want to stake a claim for more playing time.

A draw (+315) only serves Roma and we do expect Brighton’s home unbeaten streak to continue here. Under three goals show -125 odds and expect Roma to want to slow down the pace of the game and deflate the atmosphere in Brighton.
