FA Cup: Nottingham Forest vs Man United Odds

Midweek FA Cup Action

Forest Looking for the Upset

Nottingham Forest are embroiled in a survival fight in the Premier League but the FA Cup has been a bright spot this season. On Wednesday, Forest host Manchester United with a spot in the Quarter-Final on the line. United, who made last season’s final, are coming off their first loss for nearly two months. Erik ten Hag’s side will look to bounce back on Wednesday while Forest will be thinking upset. We’ll take a look at the Nottingham Forest vs Man United odds for some midweek FA Cup action.

Forest vs Manchester Head-to-Head

When these teams last met, Nottingham Forest picked up their first win over Manchester United since 1994. Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White scored in Forest’s 2-1 win at the City Ground in December. That victory snapped an 11-game Forest losing streak in this fixture. This is the first time the FA Cup draw has paired Forest and Man United since 1990, when United won 1-0. Manchester United have scored vs Nottingham Forest in 19 straight matches.

Nottingham Forest Limp Into Fifth Round

Nottingham Forest’s road to the FA Cup fifth round has been a rocky one, but they’ve managed to progress, nonetheless. In the third round, they took on third tier side Blackpool and fell behind 2-0 but managed to draw 2-2. In the replay round, Forest took a two goal lead but conceded twice in the second half and the fixture went into extra time. Chris Wood, who’s now out injured, scored Nottingham Forest’s winner.

In the fourth round, Forest played to a scoreless draw vs Championship team Bristol City. The replay round finished 1-1 and Forest progressed on penalties. So, Nottingham Forest have drawn all four of their 90 minute matches in the FA Cup so far. Currently, the FA Cup odds price them as +6500 longshots to win the tournament for the first time since 1959. Results have improved since Nuno Espirito Santo took over as coach but defense remains an issue.

Nottingham Forest conceded four goals in Saturday’s loss at Aston Villa and shipped three vs Newcastle a few weekends ago. Bettors should note that Forest have only won one of their last ten 90 minute matches as well. Along with Wood, Ola Aina, Ibrahim Sangare, and Willy Boly have been out injured. At the moment, the Forest vs Man United odds price the hosts as +240 underdogs for Wednesday’s match.

Hojlund Out for Manchester United

Manchester United fell 2-1 vs Fulham on Saturday in a Premier League match. It was the first time United lost to Fulham at Old Trafford since 2003. United’s season has been a tumultuous one and the FA Cup is the only competition they have a hope of winning. In the all-time table for the FA Cup, only Arsenal have won the competition more times (14) than Manchester United (12). However, United will be without striker Rasmus Hojlund on Wednesday.

Before suffering a muscle injury, Hojlund had scored seven goals in his last six Premier League matches. With him and Anthony Martial injured, Erik ten Hag likely will play Marcus Rashford as a striker once again. United, who defeated Wigan 2-0 in the FA Cup third round and Newport County 4-2 in the fourth round, have been hit relatively hard by injuries this season. Along with Hojlund and Martial, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are out.

Kobbie Mainoo has taken advantage and earned a place in United’s midfield but the squad is threadbare. Prior to the loss vs Fulham, United had won their previous five matches with Hojlund at the center of their success. Man United looked quite vulnerable at the back vs Fulham and Victor Lindelof had to play as a makeshift left back with Shaw and Malacia out. United have been an unpredictable pick for betting this season and that isn’t expected to change anytime soon.

Nottingham Forest vs Man United Match Analysis & Odds

With Hojlund out, Manchester United’s crippling inconsistency could continue. They are favorites at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday but it wouldn’t be surprising if they succumb to defeat either. The Nottingham Forest vs Man United odds currently list United at a +105 price and they’ve already lost at the City Ground this season. Nottingham Forest, looking to bounce back from defeat at Aston Villa, are +240 underdogs.

A draw (+250) would mark the fifth straight for Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Should the match go to penalties, note that Forest have won 11 of their last 12 shootouts. Bettors can back Nottingham Forest pk, +0.5 at -105 while United pk, -0.5 sits at -125.

Both teams have scored in six of Manchester United’s last seven matches overall. Forest have conceded two or more goals in seven of Espirito Santo’s 13 matches in charge as well. Both over and under 2.5, 3 goals are priced at -115.
