Singapore GP Betting Odds: Can Ferrari Upset the Books Again?

Ferrari is the Defending Champion but Verstappen is Unstoppable

Max Verstappen is running away with the title and has a shot at clinching it with a win in the Singaporean Grand Prix this weekend. Indeed, the Singapore GP betting odds favor him by a wide margin (-400) to win the race even if he’s never won it before. But who’s to doubt Verstappen after he’s won the F1 last five races? However, Ferrari may be a good underdog to back as they finished 1-2 the last time Formula One was in Marina Bay.

Can Ferrari Do It Again?

It’s not always we can consider Ferrari or its drivers as sizable underdogs. But that is where Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz find themselves. Leclerc is priced at 4-1 while Sainz is third at 10-1 per the Singapore GP betting odds. The Monegasque driver finished second in Singapore in 2019 behind then-teammate Sebastian Vettel. it was the third straight race Ferrari won and the only one they finished 1 and 2.

At the time, the sportsbook had Vettel and Ferrari as underdogs behind Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. It was the only race that Vettel, the four-time champion, won in that season. Now, Vettel is racing with Aston Martin in what is his final season. The book does not even offer him on the outright odds to win the Singapore Grand Prix and a podium finish for him is at 100-1.

The Singapore GP betting odds have Leclerc as a likely podium finisher while both are also heavily lined to finish in the top-six.

As for Sainz, the Spaniard has won one race this year: the British Grand Prix. Since then, he’s finished on the podium just once. Leclerc has been on a roll since struggling following his win in Austria. The 24-year-old has finished third and second in his last two races. The Singapore GP betting odds have Leclerc as a likely podium finisher while both are also heavily lined to finish in the top-six.

Verstappen Can Clinch World Title If…

While Ferrari looks to solidify their standing as the second-placed team, Verstappen and Red Bull are chasing a record. The Belgian-Dutchman is just two wins away from tying the record of 13 wins in a season and just three from setting his own record. There are still six races counting Singapore this Saturday.

But that’s not all for Verstappen. He can clinch his second consecutive world title if he finishes first and his rivals, Leclerc, and teammate Sergio Perez don’t accumulate enough points. Verstappen will win clinch the title if Leclerc finishes ninth or lower and Perez finished fifth or lower. If Verstappen nabs the extra point for the fastest lap, he can win the title if Leclerc finishes eighth or worse and Perez finishes fourth or lower.

The Singapore GP betting odds don’t foresee that happening though. Both Leclerc and Perez should finish in the top-six. Of course, retirement is possible. Leclerc has failed to finish three races this season while Perez has retired twice. Folks betting F1 can lay the juice on Verstappen considering what he’s overcome in the last few races.

Don’t Count Out Mercedes

Mercedes is the third party in the Formula One triumvirate and the team is just 35 points shy of tying Ferrari on the F1 standings 2022. What the team needs is a win. The constructor has won at least one race for the last 10 seasons. Hamilton, the seven-time champion, has finished second twice while George Russell finished second in Bahrain. But Verstappen was way ahead of both.

“We want to try and fight Ferrari for that P2 position,” Technical Director Mike Elliott said on Mercedes’s goals this season. “We want to try and win a race this season, or multiple races ideally; and most of all, we want to get ourselves back on track so we’re fighting properly for a championship next year.”

The constructor has won the Singaporean Grand Prix four times and it feels the track will better suit their W13. They have been more consistent than Ferrari. But they do need that breakthrough victory to make things more interesting.
