Euro 2024 Qualifier: Iceland vs Portugal Odds

Portugal with Perfect Record on The Line

Iceland Host Portugal in Reykjavik

Through three Euro 2024 qualifiers, Portugal have scored 13 goals and conceded none. Roberto Martinez’s tenure has started off excellently, with three wins and a foot in Euro 2024. Portugal head to Iceland on Tuesday for their last qualifier of the month. Iceland nearly qualified for Euro 2020 but this time around, their campaign hasn’t gotten off to a great start. Iceland are going for their first-ever win vs. Portugal on Tuesday. For this match in Reykjavik, we’ll take a look at the Iceland vs Portugal odds.

Euro 2024 Qualifier

Iceland vs Portugal

Date, time:
Location: Laugardalsvöllur, Reykjavik, Iceland

Head-to-Head:

Iceland and Portugal have only previously met on three occasions. They last faced off in a Euro 2016 group stage match, which ended in a 1-1 draw. In Euro qualifiers, back in 2010 and 2011, Portugal completed a sweep of Iceland.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened up the scoring as Portugal won 3-1 in Reykjavik and Portugal won 5-3 in Porto. Both teams have scored in each of the three head-to-head matchups.

Tough Start for Iceland

  • Standings: 1-2, 5th Group J
  • Key Injuries: None Reported

Iceland hosted Slovakia on Saturday in their first Euro 2024 qualifier of the month. Slovakia’s Juraj Kucka opened up the scoring in the 27th minute and Iceland won a minute before the half. Alfred Finnbogason stepped up and converted to equalize.

Tomas Suslov scored a 69th minute winner for Slovakia as Iceland fell 2-1. Iceland dropped to 1-2 with the loss and are now in fifth-place in Group J.

Iceland’s only win came against 0-3 Liechtenstein back in March. In that match, Aron Gunnarsson scored a hat trick as Iceland came away with a 7-0 result.

They also fell 3-0 to Bosnia and Herzegovina in their first Euro 2024 qualifier. Unsurprisingly, the Iceland vs Portugal odds price the hosts as underdogs for Tuesday’s match.

Notably, Iceland have only won one of their last eight matches in regulation, in all competitions. Plus, they haven’t won a home match since defeating Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier back in 2021.

Iceland lack a prolific goalscorer and no active player has scored more than 15 goals for the national team. It’s important that Iceland come away with a result here as they’re already four points off qualification pace.

Ronaldo Still Key Player for Portugal

  • Standings: 3-0, 1st Group J
  • Key Injuries: D Nuno Mendes

Fernando Santos caused controversy when he took Cristiano Ronaldo out of Portugal’s starting lineup in the World Cup. Ronaldo’s replacement, Goncalo Ramos, scored a hat trick in the World Cup round of 16 vs. Switzerland.

Ramos also started in Portugal’s 1-0 loss to Morocco in the quarters. Since Roberto Martinez took over coaching duties, Ronaldo has started all three of Portugal’s matches. The legendary 38-year old has the most international goals of all time and has scored four times in three Euro 2024 qualifiers, so far.

He didn’t get on the scoresheet in Portugal’s 3-0 win vs. Bosnia on Saturday, though, as Bruno Fernandes scored twice. Portugal have been dominant in their qualifying matches, with 13 goals scored and none conceded.

The Euro 2024 qualifier odds price the Selecao as heavy favorites to win Group J. Portugal are already five points ahead of third-placed Luxembourg and the top two teams in each group qualify for Euro 2024.

Portugal opened up their campaign with a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein, as Ronaldo scored twice. Ronaldo also scored a brace in March’s 6-0 win over Luxembourg.

Portugal are full of attacking talents, as Ramos, Joao Felix, Bernardo Silva and Rafael Leao are all solid options. Their defense has also been excellent as the trio of 18-year old Antonio Silva, Ruben Dias and Danilo Pereira hasn’t conceded yet.
