Marlins vs Reds Betting Odds: Miami Road Favorites in Opener
Slumping Teams Still Fighting for Postseason Berths
The Miami Marlins visit the Cincinnati Reds to open a three-game series beginning Monday. Both teams are desperate for a win. The Marlins have dropped four straight games to fall out of a wild card spot. The Reds are on a six-game losing streak and are clinging to a wild card position. The Marlins vs Reds betting odds have Miami’s Eury Perez -130 over Brandon Williamson in Monday’s series opener. The total is 10.5.
Perez has been solid all season long, going 5-3 with a 2.36 ERA. The Marlins have let Perez down offensively, scoring just 3.09 runs when he starts. Miami is just 5-6 when he starts and 2-8-1 in totals. The Marlins have` scored two total runs in his last four starts.
Williamson is 3-2 with a 4.85 ERA. The Reds are 9-5 when Williamson starts, scoring 5.0 runs, but allowing 5.96 runs. The Reds have lost big on three occasions with Williamson on the mound, allowing 38 runs in those three games.
The Marlins have hit the ball well this season, but don’t take advantage of it. Miami is No. 3 in team batting average, but No. 25 in runs scored. The Marlins are No. 27 in home runs. Miami is No. 16 in team ERA, but have converted just 29 of 52 save opportunities. The 23 blown saves are tied for second most in MLB.
The MLB stats have the Reds with a team batting average of .251, which is No. 16 in the league. The Reds are No. 7 in runs scored and tied for No. 14 in home runs. Pitching has been the sore point for Cincinnati this season. The Reds are No. 27 in team ERA and are 41 out of 57 in saves.
Monday’s Game
It makes sense that Perez is favored on the road in the opener. The 20-year-old right-hander has done everything you could want from a youngster. He’s not going to pitch enough innings to qualify for the ERA title, but he’s one of the MLB leaders 2023. But it is puzzling the Marlins have a losing record when he starts.
Williamson has a much higher ERA. He’s had some good starts, but also some ugly ones. But he typically gives the Reds a chance to win, which is the main thing.
If Williamson has one of his decent outings, which he should considering he’s pitching against Miami, the under looks good here. Perez hasn’t allowed many runs and the Marlins don’t score a whole lot.
Tuesday’s Game
The Reds are going to start Luke Weaver. The Marlins will counter with Braxton Garrett. Weaver has some ugly numbers. But much like Williamson, the Reds win more than they lose he starts. Weaver is 2-4 with a 6.98 ERA, but the Reds are 11-8 when he starts. Cincinnati is scoring 5.74 runs and allowing 5.53 runs.
Garrett is having a strong season. Miami is 16-5 when he starts and the Marlins vs Reds betting odds will have Miami favored if he goes here. The Marlins are 7-3 when he starts on the road and have to be the side to take in this one.
Wednesday’s Game
This is one of three day games on Wednesday’s MLB schedule. The Marlins will send Johnny Cueto to the mound, while the Reds will start Graham Ashcraft. The Marlins vs Reds odds should have Cincinnati as small road favorites in this game.
Cueto is 0-3 with a 5.32 ERA. He’s allowed four runs in six innings in each of his last two starts. Miami has lost all four games he’s started, but they’ve also only scored a total of six runs in those games.
Ashcraft is 6-7 with a 5.18 ERA. The Reds have gone 10-11 when Ashcraft starts and 5-7 when he starts at home.
This is a tough game based on what the pitchers have done so far. Cueto has fallen victim to a little bit of bad luck, as you don’t expect to have an ERA over 5.00 when you have a WHIP of .95. He’s pitching against his former team and think this is the day he’ll break through and will take the Marlins in this spot.
