Yankees Feeling Good After 6-1 Start To Season

The MLB schedule had the New York Yankees on the road for their first seven games. But they’ll be back at Yankee Stadium for the first time this season with a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York fans must be excited about how the first week went. The Yankees added six wins before even playing a home game to start the year.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are currently at 3-4 heading into this series. Toronto has already had a difficult stretch. But it only gets harder against the Yankees now, looking at the Jays vs.Yankees MLB stats.

The Yankees will likely be favorites for Friday’s opener and on Sunday. That would make them favorites to win the weekend series.

Check out the Jays vs Yankees betting breakdown for the Yankees home-opening series this weekend.

Relief Help Is Coming…Just Not Yet!

Toronto’s manager, John Schneider, told the media that Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson could return to the bullpen by Monday. Romano has elbow inflammation, and Swanson has forearm tightness. However, both are experienced relief pitchers who have had major success with Toronto in previous seasons.

So, while those two won’t be in the bullpen against the Yankees, we may see them on the mound in a new series against the Mariners by Monday.

Back To The Basics

The Yankees started the season with five consecutive wins. However, over the last couple of games, the Yankees haven’t worked the counts like they did earlier and are now paying the price.

Despite what happened against the Diamondbacks, the Yankees finished off an impressive road trip to begin the season, going 6-1.

The fans will be excited for home opening day on Friday.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Betting Odds Game 1: ML Yankees -142, O/U 8.5 -115/-105

Game 1

Friday, 1:05 pm ET
Yusei Kikuchi vs. Marcus Stroman

Marcus Stroman will start the home opener for the New York Yankees.

In his first game with New York, he threw six innings and struck out four with a 1.00 WHIP against the Houston Astros. He’s typically this consistent. He’s not a high strikeout pitcher, but he’s very good at forcing ground balls and going deep into games. Last year, against 575 batters, Stroman gave up a .104 ISO and wOBA of .289 with over 57% of ground balls.

He’ll likely go up against Yusei Kikuchi of the Bue Jays. Kikuchi is a lefty starter who allowed a .167 ISO and wOBA of .333 to righties last season. However, he still struck out 25.5% of all batters and only walked 6.9% of all batters faced in the previous year. Kikuchi will give up some power, but you’ve got to hit him first.

Last season, the Blue Jays didn’t hit righties consistently. The projected lineup smacked a .151 ISO and wOBA of .319, which is average at best. The Yankees struck out more against lefties, but the projected lineup has more power, after hitting a combined .194 ISO last season.

The Yankees are ahead in the American League baseball standings for a reason. Take the Yankees to win Game 1 of the series.

Game 2

Saturday, 7:05 pm ET
Kevin Gausman vs. Clarke Schmidt

Clarke Schmidt will get his second start for the Yankees in Game 2 of this series. Schmidt lasted 5.1 innings in his first start against the Astros and allowed seven hits with three runs. While he didn’t walk anyone, Schmidt still had a 1.31 WHIP when he left the game.

Currently, Schmidt is the weakest link in the Yankees’ rotation. He was poor against lefties last season, allowing a .196 ISO and woBA of .379. However, Toronto doesn’t have a ton of lefties in its lineup.

On the other hand, the Blue Jays will probably send out Kevin Gausman for Game 2 of the series. Gausman began the year with only 70 pitches in 4.1 innings of work against the Rays. He didn’t get credited with the win. But the Jays got the win in his start after he allowed only one run and two hits in those 4.1 innings.

Gausman struck out 31% of batters last season and held teams to a .152 ISO and wOBA of .297. He was way worse against lefties, but overall, Gausman is one of the best pitchers in the game and should help the Blue Jays add a win on the road in Game 2.

While the Blue Jays didn’t dominate righties last year, they’ll get enough runs with Gausman on the mound. If you’re looking to wager on the Jays vs Yankees betting odds, grab the Blue Jays.

Game 3

Sunday, 1:35 pm ET
Bowden Francis vs. Luis Gil

This should be an interesting matchup between two young pitchers looking to stay in their respective rotations.

Luis Gil has only thrown in eight games throughout his career. However, his first game this season was terrific. He didn’t go five innings, but he still added six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work after throwing just under 85 pitchme. Gil gave up just one hit to the Astros in nearly five innings.

On the other hand, Bowden Francis will pitch for the Blue Jays. Francis struggled in his season debut, allowing ten hits and seven runs in 5.1 innings. The positives were his seven strikeouts and one walk allowed. However, Francis also allowed three home runs and watched 11 fly balls get hit off him.

Gil certainly made a better impression in his first start. The Yankees are better positioned to win the series in a potential rubber match.
