Twins vs Brewers Preview: Milwaukee Looks To Stay Perfect vs Minnesota

Interleague Matchup Opens Two-Game Series

The Milwaukee Brewers try to stay unbeaten on the 2024 season when they host the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday for the first of a quick two-game interleague series. Milwaukee swept the New York Mets over the weekend to jump out to a 3-0 beginning to the 2024 campaign, putting them among the MLB league leaders in wins already.

The Twins went 2-1 against the host Kansas City Royals to start their season, dropping the last of a three-game set on Sunday, 11-0. Both teams are looking for returns to the postseason in 2024 after winning their respective divisions in 2023.

Minnesota is the betting favorite for this one despite being on the road, getting -110 odds on the moneyline, while Milwaukee is listed at +100. The over/under for the contest is set at 8.5 runs.

Twins Need Bounceback Performance

In the first two games of the 2024 campaign, Minnesota’s pitching was great, holding Kansas City to two total runs. But on Sunday, things went south in a hurry, with the Royals pounding out 14 hits and scoring 11 runs.

Right-hander Louis Varland will take the mound for the first time this season for the Twins after going 4-3 with a 4.63 ERA in 17 games and 10 starts in 2023. The 26-year-old had 71 strikeouts in 68 innings, and the Twins are hoping he can shut down the hot Brewers offense in this one.

Outfielder Byron Buxton has been the top hitter for Minnesota Twins in the early going, recording three hits, including a pair of doubles, while driving in three runs.

The Twins’ offense took a hit when third baseman Royce Lewis, who had a home run in the season opener, suffered a severe quad strain in that same game, sidelining him for up to a month. Minnesota’s lack of hitting could make this one of the lower MLB scores today.

Hoskins, Yelich Powering Brewers In Early Going

One of the better MLB free agents of this past offseason was Rhys Hoskins, and the Brewers are very happy that he decided to sign with them. Hoskins showed his potential in Saturday’s win over the Mets, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. Unfortunately, he’s gone hitless in the other two games with a pair of strikeouts.

One of the veterans on the team, outfielder Christian Yelich, is also looking good in the early going of the season, batting a team-best .455 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. The Milwaukee Brewers would love to see the 32-year-old recapture some of the magic that earned him the NL MVP in 2018.

Another newcomer, right-hander Jakob Junis, will get the start for the series opener. The 31-year-old started just four times in 40 appearances with San Francisco a season ago, going 4-3 with a .387 ERA, so it’s hard to say how long he’ll go in this one.

Brewers Keep Rolling With Win

Looking at this Twins vs Brewers preview, Minnesota was able to take two out of three from the Royals over the weekend, but Milwaukee is going to provide even more resistance in this series. The Twins’ offense isn’t very good so far, while the Brewers have been putting up runs and playing at home.

Though the MLB odds are against it, we like Milwaukee to win this one in a low-scoring affair. Make your betting picks on the Brewers and under 8.5 runs.
