Orioles vs Phillies Betting Odds: Surprising Baltimore Visits Philadelphia

Phillies in Battle for Wild Card

The first-place Baltimore Orioles visit the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series starting Monday. Baltimore leads the American League East by 2.0 over Tampa. The Phillies are one of several teams within a game of a wild card berth. The Orioles vs Phillies betting odds will have Philadelphia favored in the opener.

The Phillies will send Cristopher Sanchez to the mound and he’s -115/+105 over Baltimore’s Dean Kremer. The total on the game is 9.5-under (-110/-110) and the Phillies are +165 on the run line at -1.5 runs.

The Orioles are second overall in the Major League Baseball standings, trailing only the Atlanta Braves. Baltimore is 61-38 on the season and 31-18 away from home. The Orioles are 39-29 against teams above .500.

The Phillies are 53-46 on the season and 26-19 at home. Philadelphia is 26-32 against teams playing better than .500 baseball.

The Orioles are No. 11 in team batting with an average of .251 and No. 9 in runs scored. Baltimore is No. 16 in team ERA and has blown 21 saves. So Baltimore’s record is better than it should be based on the team stats.

The Phillies are No. 10 in team batting with a .256 average and are No. 15 in runs scored. Philadelphia is No. 12 in team ERA and has converted 28 of 38 saves.

The Orioles have been the most profitable team this season from a baseball betting perspective. Baltimore’s flat-bet profit of $2,279 is quite a bit better than second-place Cincinnati’s profit of $1,709. The Phillies are -$497 on the season.

Monday’s Game

Sanchez is favored despite an 0-3 record, although his ERA of 3.06 is pretty solid. He’s made seven starts and the Phillies are 3-4 in those games. Philadelphia has scored three runs or less in six of his seven starts, so he’s pitched better than his record indicates. The Phillies are 1-6 in totals with Sanchez on the mound.

Kremer has a 10-4 record, but his ERA is 4.80. The Orioles have won 14 of the 20 games he’s started. Kremer has had a couple of rough outings, which have taken a toll on his ERA. But for the most part, he’s been decent enough. The Orioles are 13-5-2 in totals when Kremer starts. That leaves conflicting trends in the total.

The sportsbook is telling you something by making the Phillies -135 favorites in this spot. The Orioles have the better team record and the pitcher with the better record. But they’re decent-sized underdogs. Have to believe the Phillies are the right side in this spot.

Tuesday’s Game

The Orioles vs Phillies betting odds have Kyle Gibson takes the mound for the Orioles. Taijuan Walker gets the start for the Phillies. Gibson is 9-6 with a 4.76 ERA this season. The Orioles are 12-9 when Gibson starts and 7-5 when he starts on the road.

Walker is 11-4 on the season with a 4.11 ERA. Philadelphia has gone 14-6 in the games Walker has started and 7-2 when he starts at home. The Phillies are 3-6 in totals with Walker on the mound at home.

The Phillies are likely to be small favorites in this one, as well. Walker is tough at home, but the odds will probably make this one of the tougher games on the MLB schedule to play.

Wednesday’s Game

The Orioles vs Phillies betting odds will have the Orioles and Kyle Bradish favored over Ranger Suarez and the Phillies in the series finale. Bradish has been one of Baltimore’s best pitchers. He brings a 6-5 record and a 3.05 ERA into this game. The Orioles are 11-7 with Bradish on the mound. In his last four losses, Baltimore has scored a total of one run.

Suarez is 2-5 with a 4.07 ERA, so he hasn’t been all that bad. Philadelphia is 7-6 when he starts, so the Phillies are scoring some runs for him. But it won’t be easy against Bradish, who is pitching better as the season goes in. In his last seven starts, Bradish has a 1.62 ERA and has allowed 29 hits in 44 1/3 innings.

Suarez has pitched slightly better recently, but the Phillies have allowed at least four runs in all six of his home starts. Have to think Baltimore is the side to be on in this game.
