Realmuto Stats: All-Star Catcher Accomplishes Rare Feat with Cycle

Realmuto Leads all Catchers in Triples (5) and Stolen Bases (10)

Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto delivered one of the best performances on the MLB schedule this season, hitting for the cycle in Monday’s 9-8 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Realmuto reached base five times, going 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. He also walked once.

The three-time All-Star became the first catcher to hit for the cycle since George Kottaras in 2011. He’s also the first Phillie to do so since David Bell in 2004.

Altogether, Realmuto is putting together another strong season, raising optimism that Philadelphia can turn things around and make another run at the National League title. The Phillies are still just 33-34, 7.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, but 8-2 in their last 10 games. Currently, oddsmakers have them priced at +1400 to get back to the World Series.

With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at Realmuto’s stats.

Driving ‘Em Home

Realmuto has maintained his place as a valued run producer. He’s driven in 25 runs in 60 games, leaving him eighth among MLB catchers and sixth on the Phillies. First baseman Alec Bohm and outfielder Nick Castellanos are currently tied for the team lead with 41 RBI, per MLB stats.

Realmuto’s stats been especially impressive of late, with eight RBI in June. His 1.026 OPS is the highest for any month in which he’s played multiple games.

With eight home runs, Realmuto should exceed his career average of 14. He hit 22 homers last year, his second-most as a Phillie and third time surpassing 20.

Slightly Below Average

Realmuto is batting .260 across 215 at-bats, his lowest average since he hit .259 in his first full season in 2015. It is well below his career average of .275.

Among players with at least 200 at-bats, it’s the fourth-highest average on the Phillies, who are batting .261 as a team. That ranks fourth in the NL and seventh in baseball. Texas currently leads all teams with a .273 average.

Extra-Base Power

Realmuto and Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes are tied for the MLB lead in triples, with five. Realmuto also has 18 doubles, tied for the seventh-most in the bigs with five players. He’s second on the Phillies in that category behind Castellanos, who has 23.

Realmuto’s career-high for doubles is 36, set in 2019, his first season in Philadelphia. At his current pace, Realmuto will top that total.

Run, JT, Run

Realmuto isn’t a burner, but he’s known to swipe a bag or two. In fact, he’s stolen 10 bases in 13 attempts, nearly halfway to his career-high of 21, set last season. It’s his third straight season with double-digit steals and the fourth time in his career.

Realmuto’s stats easily lead all catchers. St. Louis’ Willson Contreras is next on the list, with five.
