Miami vs. Orlando Betting Odds: Miami’s resurgence under Messi
As the last of the Leagues Cup 2023 groups finish, we already have some of the Round of 32 fixtures to prepare! The first is the battle for Florida, Miami vs. Orlando. Despite Miami not being in MLS as long as Orlando, their rivalry is almost unmatched. They have a short history of hating each other’s guts. Add Messi into it? It just gets that much more intense.
The intra-state rivals will meet in the Round of 32 after Wilder Cartagena clinched the spot for Orlando with a 92nd-minute game-winning goal over Mexican team Santos Laguna on Saturday night. Inter Miami and Orlando each won their groups and will now face each other for the first time since Messi and Sergio Busquets joined the Miami roster.
Miami is coming off back-to-back wins in the group stage, 2-1 over Cruz Azul and 4-0 over Atlanta United. Messi and Robert Taylor each scored three goals over the two matches.
Nothing quite beats a rivalry match in a cup competition, and Miami vs. Orlando will surely give us a heated game.

Miami’s resurgence under Messi
Before Messi and Busquets’ arrivals, Inter Miami played abysmal soccer and sat in last place in the MLS standings. However, since they’ve come to Miami, they look like a completely different team! They’ve won two games in a row, the second was very commanding, and they’ve scored six goals in those two wins.
Many will call that the Messi Effect. His arrival alone has elevated everyone around him. Including players like Robert Taylor, who had only scored two goals all season until the game against Atlanta. With Jordi Alba and the new young players coming into the fold, who knows what this Miami team can do?
They could easily make a massive push through the Leagues Cup and turn their season around.
Orlando is fun to watch?!
Under coach Oscar Pareja, fans have seen Orlando’s fortunes turn around after being one of the worst teams in MLS. They’ve always had a good roster, but no one has been able to unlock their potential like Pareja has this season.
Orlando got through to the next Round of the Leagues Cup thanks to a super late winner to top their group to face Messi and co. Orlando were the favorites to go through in their group, but with how they’ve been historically, you never really know.
If Orlando can get a result in their matchup with Miami and Messi, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see them make a late push through the Cup. They’ve already won the US Open Cup; what’s stopping them from getting this one?
