It’s that time of the year in the MLS schedule when the “best” players from around the league compete at the 2023 MLS All-Star game. Last year, fans got to see the MLS All-stars vs. Liga MX All-stars, and it was a lot more fun than previous All-Star games. The MLS All-Stars will take on English Premier League side Arsenal this year!
The 2023 MLS All-Star game is the league’s second marquee event after the MLS Cup. The All-Star Game combines a collection of top players for many events, capped off by a friendly match.
While the match does not count toward the standings or affect the playoffs, it allows the league and its players to celebrate the season’s first-half success as the second half begins.
In the past, MLS All-Stars have played against the likes of the U.S. men’s national team (2002), English Premier League’s Chelsea (2006, 2012), and La Liga’s Real Madrid (2017).
MLS will be hosting events all week leading up to the big event on the 19th for the 2023 MLS All-Star game. Here is everything you need to know leading up to the game!
2023 MLS All-Star Events
The 2023 MLS All-Star game brings world-class soccer events, music, interactive fan experiences, and community-focused events to DC. from July 15 to 19.
Here is the list of events happening during the MLS All-Star week:
- July 17th — Opening Proceedings and Concert
- July 18th — MLS All-Stars Skills Challenge
- July 19th — MLS NEXT All-Star Game
- July 19th — 2023 MLS All-Star Game
Other smaller events and activities will be mixed in throughout each day to involve the communities. There are even rumors that Messi could also participate in the Skills Challenge!
2023 MLS All-Star Game Roster
Twenty-eight players will represent Major League Soccer against Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal side for the 2023 MLS All-Star Game at Audi Field in DC. Inter Miami’s newest signings, Leo Messi and Sergio Busquets, will not be added to the team since they technically just got announced yesterday!
Here is how MLS and Wayne Rooney formed the All-Star roster:
- 12 players determined by a combined vote of fans, media, and players
- Wayne Rooney selected fourteen players for the roster
- Two players selected by MLS Commissioner Don Garber

Predicted Lineup
In previous iterations of the MLS All-Star game, the team has lined up in a 4-3-3 formation or even a 4-2-4 to showcase the attackers. However, with Wayne Rooney at the helm for the 2023 MLS All-Star game, we expect the Englishman to roll out a 4-2-3-1 to take on Arsenal.
