Aces vs Liberty Betting Preview: Dress Rehearsal for the WNBA Finals

Heavyweights Meet One Last Time Prior to Playoffs

All Even, the Odds Favor Las Vegas in This Fifth Matchup

Plenty is still at stake in this fifth and final meeting between the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty. The Liberty could still finish atop the WNBA and gain home-court advantage in the Finals. Also, it’s the deciding match between these giants as they’ve each won two games apiece. We don’t need to sell this Aces vs Liberty betting preview too hard as Las Vegas looks to get the final say as favorites.

Aces vs Liberty Game Information

Game: Las Vegas Aces (30-6) vs New York Liberty (28-7)
Day/Time:
Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY

Aces Have To Get Up For This One

Just a few weeks ago, the Aces got their butts handed to them at the Barclays Center. The Liberty thumped them 99-61 in what was their most embarrassing defeat. A’ja Wilson also had one of her worst WNBA stats lines at 2-of-14 shooting. With that memory still fresh in their minds, the Aces have to put on a better performance. Right?

“At the end of the day, I’m (going to) always shoot. I don’t care,” Wilson told reporters following the game. “I’m going to always shoot the basketball because my teammates need that from me. Do I live with this? Of course, I’m gonna live with this.”

The oddsmakers have New York favored by just 1.5 points and -125 on the ML with Vegas as slight +105 underdogs. The total sits at 173.5.

The defending WNBA champions remain a powerhouse even if they have had less-than-ideal performances. Las Vegas is just 6-4 in its last 10 games and just 4-6 ATS in this span. A lot of it is due to the absence of Candace Parker, the team’s fifth All-Star, who also shared ballhandling responsibilities.

The other could just be fatigue. It’s often common for runaway teams like Vegas to lose some motivation when it’s blowing nearly every team out every game. Thus, this Aces vs Liberty betting preview already has the same cliches as old stories.

New York is Burning Hot

While the Aces have been cold by their standards, the Liberty have been scorching hot. The team is 9-1 in its last 10 games and 7-3 ATS in this span. New York has been the best team since the All-Star break, narrowing the gap in the WNBA standings with Las Vegas.

Interestingly, the Liberty have a +15 point differential in their last 10 games. Vegas? Only +1.8. Even if Breanna Stewart has had off games, New York’s offense has picked up. And perhaps more importantly, the team improved on the defensive and rebounding sides.

If the team can keep this momentum, consider New York a hot underdog bet in this Aces vs Liberty betting preview. New York is 2-2 and a profitable dog in its four games as an underdog. Of course, all of these were against Las Vegas.

This team is also a stacked one. And if not for Las Vegas, the Liberty would be looked at as the “superteam” of the WNBA. Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu are like the WNBA’s version of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. And you also add a former MVP in Jonquel Jones and a future Hall of Famer in Courtney Vandersloot.

They’ve all shown up against Las Vegas at some point in this regular season series. So expect any combo of the four to go off and help New York make money off the WNBA odds again.
