Boston’s Offensive Output Has Lacked Recently On The Road

The Celtics vs Blazers Odds Strongly Favor The Celtics

On Saturday, the Boston Celtics stopped the bleeding with a road win over the Phoenix Suns. They’re 49-14 on the season, but the Celtics had lost two consecutive games before that win over the Suns.

Boston will play its fourth consecutive road game. However, this will be the first matchup against a team that won’t be in the NBA playoffs. They’ll take on the Portland Trail Blazers, who are just 18-45 on the season.

Still, the Blazers added a win in their last game over the Toronto Raptors and have some momentum with another home game on the horizon.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

The Celtics are a 7.5-point favorite, with the total currently at 218.5. The Celtics likely win this game, even on the road. But can Boston cover the massive spread?

Let’s find some value in the Celtics vs Blazers odds to begin the new week.

Celtics vs Blazers Odds & Trends

The Celtics have been dominant straight-up. However, against the spread, they are just 31-29-3. They’re just two losses away from being .500 in that regard.

Meanwhile, the Celtics have hit the Under in four more games than the Over this season. 11 of the 14 losses have come on the road though.

On the other hand, the Blazers are just 10-22 at home. However, they’re 30-33 against the spread, which isn’t all that bad considering the Blazers haven’t won 20 games this season.

Portland Trail Blazers has also hit the Under just one more time than the Over this season.

This will be the first of two games between the Blazers and Celtics. Boston has won the last two meetings as solid favorites, earning double-digit wins in both games in last year’s 2023 season.

Jaylen Brown’s Team

When the Boston Celtics are spoken about, the first name brought up is Jayson Tatum. But that’s slowly changing throughout this season.

Jaylen Brown has the highest contract in NBA history and has been leading the Celtics more recently.

This month, Brown has averaged 28.6 points per game and has earned six rebounds and 3.8 assists per night. In his most recent game, Brown nailed his 1,000th career triple as a 27-year-old.

It took Brown 528 games to earn this accomplishment, while it took Larry Bird 897 games to make 649 threes.

Brown is taking over as the better player in Boston.

Portland’s Getting Healthier

Although the season is practically over for the Blazers, there’s some good news coming out of Portland’s public relations.

DeAndre Ayton and Scoot Henderson are back in the lineup and healthy. Meanwhile, the Blazers are still without Malcolm Brogdon, Jerami Grant, Shaedon Sharpe, Jabari Walker and Robert Williams III.

Along with Aydon and Henderson in the lineup, we could see Walker and Grant. Both are listed as game-time decisions for this game as well.

That’s potentially four NBA players who haven’t played regularly for the Blazers recently who could be in the lineup.

Can We Trust Portland To Cover?

It’s a daunting task, but the Blazers are playing their fourth consecutive home game while the Celtics are playing their fourth straight road game. The Blazers might have the edge, at least to cover in this game.

Over the last three games on the road, the Celtics have seen a drastic drop in offensive production. Boston has had two games with only 110.3 points per 100 possessions or fewer. They’ve also shot an effective field goal percentage of 51.1% or lower in two of the last three games.

In addition, Boston is struggling to get to the foul line and is not currently earning an extremely high rate of offensive rebounds.

On the defensive end, the Celtics have been slightly above average. They haven’t been incredible, thanks to a low number of turnovers, but Boston has still held NBA teams to a low number of free throws in most games over the last ten.

The Celtics also won’t allow many offensive rebounds, which is crucial against Portland.

The Blazers have added at least 34% of offensive rebounds in three of four games. They will also add many second chances and offensive rebounds against the Celtics. However, knowing the Blazers have struggled to keep turnovers down, that will even itself out.

At home, Portland’s been an above-average offense. This is something we haven’t been used to seeing. However, the Celtics have recently added at least 109.6 points per 100 possessions in four consecutive games and in five of their last six.

While Portland turns the ball over a lot, the Blazers typically earn a high rate of turnovers, too. They’re just bad at keeping teams off the foul line and don’t limit teams from quality looks.

The Blazers and Celtics both have edges. The Celtics should eventually push away, but the Blazers, at home, have some value.

The offense has performed better at home, while the Celtics have struggled to find consistency on the road. Portland won’t be at the top of the odds with the Celtics. But the NBA weekly schedule has favored Portland lately.

After looking at the Celtics vs Blazers odds, for our picks tonight, we’ll be daring and back the Blazers at +7.5.
