Can Dallas Get Its Act Together On Friday?

There's Value With The Mavericks vs Hawks Lines

The Dallas Mavericks will look to end a three-game losing streak with a road game against an equally struggling Atlanta Hawks squad.

The Hawks are back home after a two-game road trip. Atlanta lost both games, allowing at least 122 points in each game.

At 18-26, the Hawks will likely consider being sellers at the NBA Trade Deadline.

On the other hand, the Mavericks are still four games above .500 despite the three consecutive losses. They’ll probably be buyers but need to get back on track to convince ownership to make that decision.

On the road, the Mavericks are -1.5 favorites, with the total currently at 243.5. The Hawks have star point guard Trae Young listed as questionable, while the Mavericks are still unsure if Kyrie Irving will play in this game.

Let’s break down the Mavericks vs Hawks lines for this matchup featured on NBA TV.

Mavericks vs Hawks Lines & Trends

The Atlanta Hawks have been horrible at covering games this year. The Hawks are currently 11-33 against the spread and have gone 8-12 at home this season.

On the other hand, Dallas is 11-9 on the road but over .500 against the spread, winning 23 of 44 games against the spread this season.

The Mavericks and Hawks have hit the Over slightly more than the Under at this time.

While Atlanta has struggled throughout the season, the Hawks have had their way against Dallas recently. The Hawks have added three wins in their last four games against the Mavericks dating back to 2021.

However, this is the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Uncover Exclusive Picks & Predictions From Our Experts.

Chaos In Dallas

Things might be slowly falling apart in Dallas.

Grant Williams was tossed after two technical fouls in the Mavericks’ recent matchup against the Suns. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic had a fan ejected and called out a post-game reporter when asked about it.

The Mavericks have lost by at least nine points in all three of their latest losses. Against the Suns, Dallas allowed 132 points and was completely embarrassed.

The Mavericks have to regroup and get their minds in the right spot. They’re worried about the wrong things. We are quite sure Luka Doncic has heard some horrible things throughout his career, this is nothing new! The fan likely deserved the ejection, but it just proves that Doncic isn’t totally locked in right now.

Will the chaos carry over into Atlanta? We’ll see.

Time For The Hawks To Blow It Up

It’s not working this year for the Atlanta Hawks. They’re 18-26 and have a really low probability of making the postseason. After losing four of their last five games, the Hawks must make some moves to improve the organization’s future.

Trae Young is undoubtedly on the block. But it’s more likely that Dejounte Murray gets traded. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the many teams that Murray can land with. But it’s almost certain he won’t play with the Hawks after the NBA Trade Deadline passes.

Murray would fit many contending teams this season. He’s scored over 21 points per game and has added more than four rebounds and five assists per game as well.

Time To Exploit The Defenses!

We mentioned above that both teams have hit the Over more times than not.

Keep that in mind.

The Dallas offense has averaged a top-ten points per 100 possessions rate and has added a 56.2% effective field goal percentage, which is also top ten in the NBA.

Beyond that, the Mavericks have turned the ball over just 12.4% of the time. While Dallas doesn’t dominate the offensive glass, the Hawks have allowed teams to earn nearly 29% of offensive rebounds. The Mavericks could add more offensive rebounds than their typical number.

The Hawks have also allowed 120.1 points per 100 possessions and a 57.6% effective field goal percentage. Other than limiting foul shots, the Hawks have been horrible defensively. Dallas should capitalize.

On the other hand, Dallas’ defense has allowed 118.1 points per 100 possessions. That’s 21st in the NBA, which also isn’t good. However, the worst part of Dallas’ defense is its rebounding. The Mavericks allowed 29.6% of offensive rebounds per game this season.

That’s brutal, knowing the Hawks have earned 30.4% of offensive rebounds this season. The Hawks don’t always get the highest-quality shots. But against the Mavericks, that could change. Add on all the second-chance opportunities that the Hawks will have, and, likely, the Hawks will stick around in this game at home.

Dallas could end up with some turnovers. But that only means a couple of fast-break points in transition.

The Hawks are really low in the NBA Power Rankings. You won’t be seeing them in talks about the NBA Playoffs tonight.

Still, our NBA predictions include the Hawks keeping up offensively with the Mavericks. When looking at the Mavericks vs Hawks lines, we’ll grab the Over 243.5 (-110).
