Deandre Ayton Next Team Odds: Time For A Fresh Start?

Dissecting the Deandre Ayton Next Team Odds Market

Ayton Ready For New Challenge

Regardless of where Deandre Ayton plays basketball next season, the one guarantee is that it will be in a new environment under a new head coach. Let’s dive into the Deandre Ayton Next Team Odds market and see if there’s any hidden value for bettors.

This market does state that it is only applicable if Ayton does not stay with the Phoenix Suns, which is an important point when assessing the probability of him ending up at any of the listed teams.

Frank Vogel comes in as head coach for the Phoenix Suns, who have also moved on from Chris Paul this offseason and acquired the services of Bradley Beal. Vogel’s systems have often required strong rim protection and inside presence, so the opportunity for Ayton to rediscover his best form will certainly exist in the new environment in Phoenix.

That said, the Suns need depth to fill out their roster, and the idea of trading Ayton for pieces that better suit their Big 3 of Beal, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant is certainly something that the front office will look to explore.

If that’s the route they take, let’s see where the most likely landing spots are for Ayton before the new season.

Mavs Clear Frontrunners for Former #1 Pick

The Dallas Mavericks are certainly a team that could benefit from having Ayton on their roster, and given their draft day moves to free up cap space, it’s fair to assume they’ll be active in finding upgrades.

Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving look set to be the leading forces in Dallas, and having a strong pick-and-roll lead to pair with them could elevate this offense to being one of the most diverse and efficient lineups in the league.

NBA team stats show how appalling Dallas’s interior defense was throughout the season, and Ayton does still present a formidable rim protection option that can at least have the team being respectable at that end of the floor.

The +300 odds on the Mavs landing Ayton next does represent some value when looking at the financial possibilities as well as on the on-court fit for the player. The hurdle would be getting a third team involved to finalize things, but if Mark Cuban decides that’s his guy, expect them to find a way to get the deal done.

The Charlotte Hornets are another team that could add a dominant inside scorer to pair with their new-look scoring punch in LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.

The Hornets have the pieces to tempt Phoenix if they want a cheap option at center along with some depth pieces that can improve their bench. The +550 does represent some value. However the caveat here is whether Charlotte wants to add another high-usage piece to take away from Miller and Ball.

The Portland Trail Blazers are a team that could be worth a look at the +900 odds, given the noise being made by Damian Lillard to acquire another star.

Whether Ayton fits that bill is another question entirely, but there’s no denying that he would upgrade Jusuf Nurkic and could provide a great pick-and-roll partnership with Lillard and Scoot Henderson. The hard sale here would be what Portland would need to give up to acquire Ayton, given the Suns are unlikely to have any interest in taking on Nurkic’s contract.

Ruling out some of the teams in the market is a good way to solidify where the value stands.

Ruling Out The Pretenders

The Chicago Bulls are +400 to be the next team to land Ayton but with the increasing likelihood of Nikola Vucevic re-signing with the team, that would put a red line through any potential of this happening.

The Orlando Magic is another short-priced team at +600, but given the direction that the team is headed, it’s hard to see a world where there would be any genuine interest there. The same can be said of the Atlanta Hawks at +550, given they have Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu competing for minutes at the Center position.

It seems unlikely Atlanta would want to move on from either of those guys, with Okongwu’s growth, in particular, likely to feature heavily in coach Quinn Snyder’s plans.

The Indiana Pacers are +900 but recently signed Myles Turner to an extension. They have reiterated their desire to have him remain an integral part of the franchise’s plans in the future.

The Boston Celtics can also be ruled out at +1000 after acquiring Kristaps Porzingis to their roster. Al Horford and Robert Williams III also still remain there, and the lack of cap space would make a deal for Ayton almost impossible.

The Deandre Ayton Next Team Odds market presents plenty of fascinating hypotheticals, but of all the teams listed, the only real possibility that holds value are the Dallas Mavericks at +300.

Just looking at the NBA scores and standings for the Mavs last season shows their desperate need for size and interior presence, and as a result, it’s the only team I would look to wager on in this market.
